Triathlon - A contest for a few brave

Triathlon = three sports, it is rumored to have started in france, arround 1920, and the word is actually Greek and means three trials. Swimming, running and cycling.

I was asked to cover the even in the photography side.

A lot of athletes from all over Greece, plus other countries joined this hard race.

This specific triathlon is organized by a beach bar in Katerini, the city that i live. Beach bars name is Almyra, which means "salty"
And the triathlon is called Almira-man. But it has become a well known place for triathlon athletes,and its beeing held there a lot of years.

Located under the mountain Olympus, the house of the 12 Gods, preparations anxiety and of course a lot of concentration is needed. Bikes, swimming equipment, even sun cream protection fills the air...

First sport is swimming. 1.9km in the sea. Luckily no waves or strong currents at that day.
Second is cycling. 90km. up to the mountain Olympus (the foot of the mountain) and down again on the sea.
Last but no least...running 21km. On a road near the beach bar. Police,and the red cross were of course on high alert.

I dont know if i could do all these trials on after another in my current fitness state...(the bikes shots where show from an open car trunk,, running sideways with the athletes ;) )

i forgot to mention that women and men are playing this sport, on the same rules. There is no man or woman on the trialthon. Everyone participates together.

Some expensive looking bikes.. (But the same can be said for my photography equipment so we are even.)

Some of these guys looked on god mode with unlimited cardio.
