SLC-S29/W4 | How to Photograph Bridges by @ripon0630

Hello friends, I hope you are all well. For the fourth week of the Steemit Challenge contest, I will be sharing How to Photograph bridge. I would like to thank the organizers of this challenge, and without further delay, I am starting my participation.

Photography at the Bhatiari-Hathazari Link Road Bridge

I did a photoshoot at a bridge located on the Bhatiari-Hathazari Link Road. There is a railway line passing underneath the bridge, which makes it a perfect spot to stand and enjoy the view of passing trains. Since it is a public bridge area, there are no specific time restrictions; one can visit here at any time.

This bridge is used by commuters traveling towards Hathazari and those coming from the opposite direction toward Bhatiari. It is a very significant structure as it connects the hilly areas of Chittagong with the coastal regions. It was constructed a long time ago under the supervision of the Bangladesh Army.

The bridge is approximately 40-45 feet long, though I don’t know the exact measurements. It is beautifully designed and standard structure. The bridge is wide enough to allow two-lane traffic from both directions simultaneously.

To the left of the bridge lies the BMA area, where the railway track stretches into the distance, and to the right, a portion of the Bhatiari area is visible. On both sides of the upper deck, there are concrete wall-like railings that give drivers the confidence to travel safely within the lane.

The upper surface of the bridge is perfectly pitched, making it ideal for vehicular movement. From below, the entire structure of the bridge is clearly visible. I started by taking photographs of the bridge, the road, and the surrounding views from the top before heading down.

From underneath, the bridge appears to be at a great height. The structure is so solid that it felt as if I were standing under a flyover. The pillars supporting the bridge are very thick—a powerful architectural feat made of a strong mixture of rod and cement.

I took most of the photographs from below. I primarily used the wide-angle lens on my device because the standard lens couldn't capture the entire bridge area in a single frame unless I moved significantly further back, which would have compromised the detail.

Standing steadily on the railway track, I tried to capture the entire surrounding area by keeping the bridge at the center of the frame. I am only uploading the best frames in this post to keep it interesting for the readers. This was my first time doing bridge photography, and the experience was extraordinary.

I noticed that while standing directly under the bridge, the sound of every passing vehicle above was clearly audible. The vibration caused by larger vehicles made it feel like the bridge was shaking, which I tried to capture in my video.

Although the pillars supporting the bridge might look small in the photos, they were quite massive and thick in reality. Looking at the soil layers, it was evident that the pillars go deep into the ground. Green vines had grown over the pillars; since they aren't regularly maintained, they looked a bit wild and untamed.

I tried taking photos from various angles to fit the entire bridge into the frame. As my first experience with bridge photography, I learned a lot—especially by going underneath for the first time. What looked small from above turned out to be quite magnificent and vast from below.
