June 12 is a significant day in the Nigerian politics, as it serves as the date of annulled election which made Chief M.K.O Abiola (GCFR) as the elected president of Federal Republic of Nigeria in 1993. After the annulment, thousands of Nigerians came out to protest, which result in losing their lives on the street of Lagos. The man, himself died in this struggle and was honoured today by Nigeria President, M. Buhari by conferring him with the highest title worthy of him which is GCFR, (Grand Commander of Federal Republic) an honour which only Nigeria president are awarded.

*I woke on the night between the odds

Searching for wonders

The hell I don't know about

I brought my heart close to the beam

In a thought of making it through the ages

Rich like Abiola

A definition of richness

I held a believe towards my heart

Searching though the diluted way

A believe, I believe will work for me one day

A struggle started

To the islands of Eko

Freedom we want you

Freedom, we fight for you.

Freedom, for you we die for

Sacrifice upon sacrifice, till we'll reach our goal

Others call it stubbornness

But we call it perseverance

Ability to withstand threat from the oldies

We are the voice and if we talk not, who will?

This is the power of the strong bone given to us for free

Others have this dream, but we implement it.

This is a call to motherland

This is a call to perseverance

All we cry for is freedom

And all we'll die for is freedom

Why?

Because it's the way to die.

We are the Freedom fighters.

We are the hope

Hope'93 lives on

This is dedicated to the heroes of June 12. Those who sacrificed their life for the restoration of democracy into the the Nigerian polity.

Abiola: The name of the Nigerian politician. This is a term quite used popularly in South West Nigeria, to denotes a rich man, maybe due to the man(Abiola)'s wealth.

Eko: Local name for Lagos, Nigeria's commercial capital.

Powerful poem! It reminded me legendary Fela Kuti, for its sociopolitical undertones. Greetings :) .
