A poem for poetry day
Dorothy Parker is known for her snarky style. Her poems often begin like a lovely breeze and in the last verse she smashes the whole picture with a sledge hammer. I love her style, because she definitely doesn't fit the "lovely housewife" picture of a woman living in the years 1893 - 1967. She was outspoken and didn't mince matters. She made herself heard, not only as a critic, but also in her barbed witted group of friends meeting together at their Algonquin Round Table in New York.
This poem I chose for poetry day today tells you several things: For one it tells you about expectations from society, what you should or should not do, how you should live your life to "amount to something". On the other hand it tells you to live your life to the fullest. Is beauty really that important to you to go to bed early? Is it necessary to obstain from fun in order to get things done? Does your life only mean something, if you leave your mark?
Don't worry to much, what other people think or how magazines tell you what the perfect life looks like! Just be yourself and "don't give a damn" about fitting into the ideological perfect picture. Sometimes you just need a bit of fun and such to enjoy life to the fullest.

Important in life is that you are OK with the things you do, the way you live. Other people are only as important as you let them be. Live your life to the fullest without thinking about those that don't like you. Don't feed the trolls ;)
