Eden Forbidden: A poem for Drew

in #poetry5 years ago

Remember when you stole my dream
and tied it to a shooting star?
Remember how you thought the fury of the Fates behind your hot caress
was nothing but desire?
Remember when you weren't a man,
unless
a martial unit of the Cherubim,
your eyes a sword of fire
illuminating the denied?
It wasn't what you'd like to to be. This is what Fate made you to me.
(I wonder if my loneliness is funny in another realm.)
I want to think you were my one and only chance; but you were just a lesson Fate was never kind enough to ask me if I'd like to learn.
You won't remember watching all that blazing hope careen to starry dust.
You won't begin to think you were the waterboard of Fate.
You won't remember standing west of Nowhere,
guarding me against the sunrise that will never come.
Remember smiles and hope and wave-goodbyes.
Remember laughter, dancing, hugs, and joy.
Remember gifts and salutations, music, food, and politics.
I wish you kinder destiny than mine.
