Broken with Meaning. New to poetry, would love any feedback
They said it would result in heartbreak
Don’t bother with the effort
Like the tale of Cleopatra
It’s a hopeless endeavor
But you took aim for the coveted Prize
You thought it was meant to be
You refused to realize it was an illusion
Until the stark descent into the fatal conclusion
You did not accept when they said that Love
Is not something one cannot seek out nor achieve
As in the innocence and the beauty of a white dove
After each heartbreak, you went to retrieve
Retrieve your broken hopes
Struggling to get back to the base of stability
Climbing up the ropes against their societal flow
Until you were face to face with your greatest foe
They would say you will move on
Even as your heart felt as though
It was subjected to a thousand raging radiant suns
Even as your mind and heart fought as foes
Your better judgement said no
But your actions said yes
You wondered, would they ever know
The mess they have created
A mess of heartbreak
Love stories that would never come to be
For your own sake
You bow to them and do nothing but agree
Agree with their cliché thoughts and ideas
Accept that it was just the lust of mystery
Like the coveted land of Pangea
Accept it as a forgotten history
They will never see how you felt
But you will bear the scars
Just as the great Teddy Roosevelt
They will read about your journey in memoirs
Knowing everything you have been through
Was not for naught
Your feelings chained as in a zoo
It was love you sought
It was not acceptance you fought for
You did not seek validation from society
You were the ever so elusive exception
Grounded only by the cruel unforgiving grasp of gravity
While it may not be not clear now
You are worthy of it all
So take a bow
You made it through it all
Broken yet alive
Broken yet breathing
Broken yet you survived
Broken yet with meaning
