"Swamp Nymph", a poem inspired by Andrei Tarkovski's "Stalker"
It's pouring down in my country, which made small puddles of murky water in my backyard, also, I just watched the movie "Stalker" recently for the second time, and got reminded about a documentary on the life cycle of dragonflies...
So, these 3 elements brought forth the poem below. Enjoy it, although it's a bit darker.
Swamp Nymph
Nothing grows here
Besides the life that dwells
In liquid darkness.
All that is born,
Born different,
Is soon strangled,
By swaying fingers
Of the plant bed...
The deathbed
Twitching...slowly...

The surface of the dark
Twists all reflections.
You look in it,
And see the monster
You could become
Look back at you,
Its muddy eyes,
Only swayed by weak
Waves.
And as you gaze,
The Mother at the bottom
Tells Her children
To stab your eyes...

You keep talking,
Clearly, so even
The mud at the bottom
Can hear you.
The Nymph tells you
That it will never gain
Its wings...
This place keeps her
Imprisoned
In her monster stage,
Never allowing her
To even sleep
As stony larvae...
The titular Nymph, which is, in case you didn't know, the first stage of the dragonfly's life cycle, before becoming a larvae, and then hatching with wings.

The black dog
Abandons his master.
He runs away,
So fast,
That he grows wings
And flies as far
As he can
From the green fingers,
And those who dwell,
In murky limbo.
He knows
That
They breathe
Your life.

But you stay,
Because
It's too late.
Slippery fingers,
With fangs,
Drag you down
To the Mother.
And as She moves
Her dark green limbs,
So many,
Away,
And as the scaly nightmares
Swim,
To flee,
You see
Her FACE.
You cry,
But it's too late...
