In Compare - part one (in a time of grieving for a friends living hell...2022)
Forgive us, Father god, for we know not
We point our fingers; ask or demand you fix our lot
yet we live outside our means
while you’ve supplied our needs
we live oblivious to the enemy’s plots
all the while, we pity ourselves
blaming; shaking a fist at you
and yet, still others are placed in utter hell
And still to you remain true
“But you don’t understand!” we say, and lament that it’s unfair
and yet all that we can muster is an unknowing stare
at the ones the enemy has left desolate - in compare
we have it too easy in the land of the free, I’m afraid
there’s a disconnect we can’t see, that, in glee, the enemy has made
“I want a better job, a better car, a better home, a better life!”…
“Just look! he’s got a gorgeous wife!”
we turn our abundance to shambles; our freedom into chains
While a demon seed is planted in our hearts that’s been demanded - in utter undue authority
yet we lean in still - to the apathy and take the bitter pill - and even some do call it sweet
“My life, it is not fair!” we continue, unaware
while in reality it is truly more than a blessing - in compare
to the desolation and ruin of so many; those truly needy - though we have plenty - in compare
yet if true evil were to come upon us, we would crumble like a castle on the beach
forgive us, father God, for we know not - the blinders on our eyes - the serpent’s tricks and lies - the true grace and love to spare that we seem to take for granted - in compare
