Polling stations across Catalonia have opened their doors. Voters are to cast their ballots on whether the region should remain a part of Spain or secede. Madrid is poised to thwart the vote, which it considers illegal.

Another instance of an oppressive government employing brute force to disrupt the democratic process. Catalonia has fought to claim independence since 1922, that spirit carried on and grew even during the brutal Franco regime that lasted until 1975. Today the Catalan people had a chance to express their will and once more felt the powers in Madrid thwart their desires. The crown and the Spanish Government have made a terrible mistake. By interrupting the referendum they will just galvanize the Catalans towards independence even more.

Seguimos con recetas del siglo XX, lo que no resolvieron en los últimos 30 años, ahora lo pretenden resolver a palos. En fin... una vez más se demuestra que los gobiernos son sitemas de organizacion ciudadana cada vez más ineficientes.

I am not sure which group I should support since I am not aware of the situation. But if the government launch a oppressive crackdown, it would actually help those who are in support of independence.

Iragi Kurdistan is not a vote for referendum. That's like an opinion to take referendum in future. The referendum was held as internal thing only. None, outside of Kurdistan supported, except for the Kurds. But, I believe, Kurds would be set free from Irag, sometimes soon.
