Why do we let crazy politicians get us worked up?
I don't follow politics very closely anymore but I do subscribe a couple of telegram channels that I peruse every morning. I rarely even read the articles that they are linking to. Every now and then though I will see an article that I think is specifically designed to get people angry or as I call it "all worked up."
This has a purpose in the political sphere I guess but to me I think that if someone were to look at situations like this one and then think it over about the plausibility of anything actually coming from it, then it isn't really worth getting angry about.

Here is a link to the article if you want to read it, I didn't.
So this person named Maureen is running for office in Texas and says that if she is elected she is going to covert the ICE facility into a detention center for Zionists. I'll be honest with you and say that I don't really know what Zionists are and that this is a buzzword that a lot of people are saying these days and this is part of the reason why I don't bother to learn what it is or to use that word. Something to do with Jews I believe, lol. I honestly don't know.
But there are people that are getting angry about this politician's claims but lets take a second to think about it rationally. What are her chances of actually getting elected... in Texas of all places? If she magically did get elected what are the chances of this sort of legislation that she is talking about drafting getting passed.... in Texas of all places?
Let's say that she hypnotized all the other representatives in Texas and this legislation passed, what are the chances that what will almost certainly be a Republican governor not vetoing it... in Texas of all places?
Even if all of those things happen in Texas of all places ICE is a federal function of the government and state politicians aren't really allowed to just do whatever they feel like with their buildings nor can they put whoever they feel like in jail, right?
These statements were attacked by everyone of course but honestly, I don't think it is even worth a person's attention. Someone can claim anything they want when they are running for an office, it doesn't mean that they are actually going to be able to do anything with that. You can claim that you are going to cure cancer on your first day in office and people might think that is great until everyone starts to realize that there is no magic politician wand and things like that take a bunch of time and there are many other factors at play.
yet the comment section of this telegram post is filled with people losing their damn minds about this woman as if she was already in office and this kind of nonsense was moving forward.
Sometimes I feel like people say outlandish things like this and they themselves know that this wouldn't actually work and they would never be able to get anything done with these notions but they say it anyway knowing that it will go viral because apparently people are idiots these days and this going viral is going to put her name out there in a way that advertisements probably couldn't buy.
There are probably a lot of people out there that had no idea who this woman was until today and we were probably better off that way.
"Stop making stupid people famous" is something I see written as a warning all over the internet, but yet, we still continue to do it. I guess this gets people to look at the article and also look at Maureen, which was probably the objective to begin with.
