Diagnosis of Nigeria problems

in #politics7 years ago

I want to talk about problem ,symptoms ,diagnosis and the solution to some of our problem , what we practice in Nigeria is not democracy but gerontocracy , the desire for old people to rule, two researchers did a 15 years research in that 15years research they where trying to look into why nations fail and why nations succeed, and the normal things people attribute success to was not the problem , attribute like geography , natural resources because there are country with natural resources that fail and also there are countries without natural resources that succeed, there is also countries in the same geographical location that succeed and another one in the same location that fail.
All the normal metrics of why countries fail and success was not found by the researchers so when I look at their research in reference to Nigeria there are certain key point I will like to flag, to start our analysis of what Nigeria problems is.
There are 7 reasons why we remain where we are in Nigeria and majority of African countries.

  1. LACK OF STRONG INSTITUTION OF STATE
The problem is politician come politician go, and every politician will always have tendencies for excesses what curtail them is strong institution of state and in a situation where institution are not strong it excesses of the leaders are easily giving expression to, for example Nigerian police force, the current set up of Nigerian police is setup to fail, we complain that our police are easily politically motivate , the reason is not far fetch, section 215 of the Nigerian constitution says ‘ that the inspector general of police must obey every lawful order of the president ‘ but section 215 subsection 5 says' in relation to lawfulness of the order given to the IG no court in the land can examine it' which mean if the president give you and order as an IG whether is lawful or not you have to obey it, because the constitution say you can’t appeal anywhere ,once you are not obeying them as an IG the booth you out, that is the reason why the IG in Nigeria has been change for ten times in the last ten years.
If the institution of state is weak there is noting you can do as an individual you will be corrupted , for instance the people that were newly elected in the 8 republic Nigeria political space were shown how to steal but the officer of the institution .e.g the ‘budget padding ‘last year'.
  1. LACK OF PLURALITY OR CHANGE IN POLITICAL LEADERSHIP.
Same people same mentality recycling political officers , a research result says powerful people always and eventually seek to grab complete control over documents undermining broader social progress for their benefit . we should keep those people in checked with effective democracy or we will watch our nation fail. Check out the name of people ruling us since independent , you will think Nigeria is a country of not more than 1 million people .
  1. LACK OF EFFECTIVE DEMOCRATIC POLITICIANOR GENIUNE CHOICE
According to the research, a country is poor because it has being ruled by a narrow elite that has organize society for their on benefit at the expense of verse mass of people, political power has being narrowly concentrate and has been used to amerced great wealth for those who process it..

  2. ABSENT OF EFFECTIVE RULE OF LAW
Politicians are the same everywhere but when there is no effective rule of law to curtail their excesses they behave anyhow , in a country where there is strong and effective rule of law they will behave well , for example , when a plan land in UK with Nigerian leaders inside they obey instruction , the same leaders bring them to Lagos they will start irrational behaviour , just because they know the rule of law is not strong here in Nigeria .
You can elect the most righteous person on earth into leadership position , if such leader is not in a well structured environment, with strong institution he will miss behave , the problem of mismanagement is not inherent in the leaders the environment they find their self make them so, our politician can behave well if our institutions are properly structured

  3. LACK OF EFFECTIVE AND COMPETITIVE PRIVATE SECTOR OWNERSHIP OF THE ECONOMY.
When the economy of a nation is revolving around a few hands the nation is in trouble , the nations that grows are nation that have a major base for their economy .

  4. LACK OF INTERNAL SECURITY.
Politics is the major bane of nigeria security system , solution to this problems are not far fetch , it is not complex at all, The security institution should be merge into own force , duplication of duties has cripple our security department.

  5. DEPRESS AND INACTIVE CITIZEN.
Nation that fail tend to have depress , oppress, disengaged and inactive citizen , no nation succeeded without active and involve citizenry .
Before concluding this write up I will love to highlight some ways through which we can be active and engaged has a citizen
    a) Be informed
    b) Be register to vote and vote
    c) Engage in political discus and debate
    d) Become a political evangelist
    e) Become a political activist
    f) Become a mobile political messenger
    g) Stand as a candidate to be voted for
    h) Join a political party
    i) Become a political lobbyist
    j) Engage with institution

Well said. The issue of lackbof security is a big problem. Talking about inactive citizens, many are hanficapped because of lack of finance or support. May God help us

This is really funny :

what we practice in Nigeria is not democracy but gerontocracy , the desire for old people to rule

Thanks for sharing

These are really serious issue we need to combat.
To cober it up they brought a bill for reduction in age for contesting for presidency. The real quesetion is will they allow the younger one in with rigging and god fatherism.
Only the old will rule.
More like an enending circle of NEPOTISM.
But at the end, we should thank God for our economy.
Some countries are facing constant war and disaster.
God bless nigeria.
God bless the world.
God heal nigeria,
God heal the world.

Amen.
