What would happen if all humans suddenly disappeared from Earth?
Suppose humans were to disappear from this earth completely, no war, no virus, no punishment, no doomsday,
Just humans suddenly disappeared from the earth.
Nothing special would happen in the first hour; power plants would continue to operate, dams would continue to release water, planes would fly on autopilot for a few hours, cities would remain the same, but after 24 hours, the story would start to change.
Nuclear power plants, where human control is necessary, would start to shut down automatically. In some places, the cooling system would fail, but there would be no major nuclear explosion. This is not science fiction; this is real engineering data.
Within a week, the electricity will be completely gone, the city will go into darkness, the elevators will stop, the metro lines will become silent, the water pumps will stop, but the real change starts here. In a few weeks, pets inside the houses will start dying because they were dependent on humans, because the simple principle of evolutionary biology is that the species that has survived on artificial facilities will disappear as soon as the facility is gone.
But wild animals like rats, dogs, cats, and wolves will start coming back inside the city. Within a year, grass will come out of the cracks in the roads. Concrete will start weakening because it cannot be repaired without humans.
It is a simple principle of chemistry that moisture, carbon dioxide, and temperature all together break it down. But after five years, the bridges will start to collapse, not because they were bad, but because there was no one to stop the steel from rusting. Oxidation is a silent killer, and nature is in no hurry.
After ten years, the forest will enter the cities, like deer, foxes, bears, etc., the place where there was once noise, where there were once humans, has now become an ecosystem. This is the land where there were once human settlements.
Now there are animals on this land, and the name of humans has disappeared. Because now nature has returned there. And after fifty years, the carbon dioxide in the atmosphere will be significantly reduced, because now the factories are closed, the cars are gone, and the ocean will slowly start to correct its chemistry.
After a hundred years, coral reefs will start to grow back, and the fish population will increase; all this has been seen in models. After two hundred years, most human cities will be just strange structures, like the Mayan civilization we see today.
Let's see a thousand years later
The Earth will not even notice the difference that once there was an intelligent race living here, because the Earth's memory system is not like that of humans. Everything here runs in cycles. This is not an emotional thing. This is a fact of the earth. The Earth does not need humans. Humans need the Earth. This is not a moral statement.
This is a joint result of biology, physics, and geology. Humans have considered themselves the owners of the earth, while the reality is that we are just a temporary experiment. If we do not exist, the earth will exist. If the earth does not exist, we can never exist. Understanding this difference is not philosophy; it is science.
