Not all ways of nature can be easily understood and at times certain species will have rather disturbing ways in order to make sure their own survival. Ants are a good example of this belief. Research has shown that the process ants will do is harsh when compared to how people may see an ant colony and how they act together.

The ants will show these behaviours when they have a young one, known as a pupa, who has caught a deadly fungus. Rather than simply kill these ants, they will make chemicals which are produced on the outside of the pupae. But these chemicals are not a rotting chemical, they serve as a way for the adult ants to receive a 'kill me' signal. Once the adults receive that signal, they will act on it immediately and not even try to treat the pupae. They instead practice what is called 'destructive disinfection'. In other words, they will bite into the pupae and mix it with acid, both killing the pupa and the fungus at the same time. Ending the chance of the disease spreading to other members of the colony before it can reproduce and spread at all throughout the group.

How will they find out which pupae will give the 'kill me' signal. Only the worker pupae will give this signal. Possibly the most interesting part, is that the future queen pupa do give this signal. This is not a sign of them being disobedient or being bad, but kings and queens have a special importance in a colony and have a healthier body, making it less likely for them to get infected and later treated with the acid. In fact, you can easily replace a single worker because they are plenty in a colony but you cannot replace the queen they are hard to replace.

Scientists confirmed this thing by actually placing the sick chemicals on healthy worker pupae and the adults would kill their healthy workers immediately, so that was confirming this cycle.
