Signs from space.

The Wow signal, according to SETI, could be the classic example of a radio beacon signal, unfortunately, it is only a paper record, there is no computer data, no sound, nor is it ever repeated, they say that it lasted 72 seconds, but that is not true, 72 seconds is what the radio telescope captured because it was fixed on the ground it was able to capture that signal, the radio telescope moved with the earth, that is, the radio telescope was fixed on the ground moving with the ground and at that moment he was able to capture that Wow signal for 72 seconds, which was the time it took to capture it.

This means that the signal could have lasted for hours, it could have been emitting for hours before and after, more than 24 hours, because then when it went around the Earth, the radio telescope would have to pick up that signal again and then that signal was never found again in that area nor was it found anywhere else, which rules out, by the way, that it is a beacon signal, because beacon or beacon signals are on for long periods of time in the cosmos perhaps for centuries or millennia as a signal.

At the moment it is the best one we have until the 100 selected from a new study are analyzed, these 100 candidate signals will be analyzed in detail with observations from the FAST (500 meter Aperture Spherical Radio Telescope) and see if they are repeated with the radio telescope that began operating in July 2025 in China, it is enormous, it will check those 100 signals at a rate of about 15 per minute per objective.

This has been done by SETI, which is an international organization of the University of California, Berkeley and they have to do it here due to the collapse of the Arecibo telescope and to be able to test those 100 signals, the question: Why did they let the Arecibo radio telescope collapse? If the Arecibo radio telescope were operating, although it was smaller, 300 meters in diameter, it is practically the cradle of SETI, it was its natural home. SETI used it for its research for decades and this project primarily used receipt data.

So, if SETI were working, surely the University of California would take all those 100 promising signals to Arecibo, so the question is not why China, but why Arecibo was allowed to die, and the “obvious” reason is that there was no money, and the Chinese did have money, if they considered it important and look where they now have on a plate the possibility of discovering the first extraterrestrial message and knowing where it comes from.

There are three types of signal that SETI considers important, one would be a beacon, a signaling signal. Why is it important? because they are powerful focal signals that would be working for a very long time. Imagine a civilization that has colonized several systems and that decides that a certain planet or certain place is a kind of beacon of reference for its ships and its communications, its transportation, etc., that beacon, that radio signal would be constantly lying for centuries, millennia, a very long time.

Another signal would be like the ones we have sent of “hello, we are here”, like the message from Arecibo, “we are on a planet and these things and we want to communicate”, I don't think it is a good idea for us to send messages of that type, perhaps in the universe the aliens are not like the Trisolarians and do not come to give us hugs, so no, perhaps it is not a good idea and luckily these messages that we have sent are not yet too far away or they have not reached their objectives.

And the other possibility is that they are distress messages, help messages, from civilizations that are on a planet that is close to a star that is going to explode as a supernova, those civilizations should be in a desperate situation and looking for some kind of solution and trying something; Because we have a hope of contacting extraterrestrials and something that derives a little from our culture of searching for God, something divine, searching for superior beings, other civilizations may not have that concept of searching for superior beings and are more pragmatic and dedicate themselves to their daily business.

We have that concept and that concept of searching for superior beings, perhaps they can help us or reveal mysteries of the universe, perhaps it is also developed by civilizations in a desperate situation to find a solution, that someone helps them in some way, those three types of messages would be the ones that we could capture with radio waves.

P.S.: And it would be very sad to find one of those messages, that perhaps has wandered through the universe for 10,000 or 20,000 years and that civilization is completely destroyed (but we still don't have the solution), but it is a possibility. If we were in that situation, we wouldn't do the same, imagine.
