Robotics on the high seas.

Independence in onshore jobs.

The ocean floor remains one of the most hostile environments on the planet, crushing pressure, total darkness and complex environments mean that much of underwater operations depend on highly specialized equipment. Now, an American company decided to take this technology to a new level. Houston-based Oceaneering International unveiled a new underwater robotic vehicle capable of continuous operations for up to 30 days on the seabed.

The equipment was baptized as Momentum Electric ROV, ROV is the acronym for remotely operated vehicle, a type of underwater robot controlled by operators on the surface, these machines are widely used in activities such as underwater infrastructure inspection, platform maintenance, deepwater construction and drilling support, but the new Oceaneering International model was designed with a different approach.

Instead of using traditional hydraulic systems, Momentum uses all-electric propulsion, which improves energy efficiency and reduces the need for maintenance, according to the company, allowing the robot to remain in operation for much longer periods.

Another highlight is the ability to adapt.

The vehicle has a modular system with plugin play sensors, allowing technicians to quickly install new tools. manipulators or sensors depending on the mission. It also has advanced 360º vision systems, offering operators a complete perception of the underwater environment, but not all great technological innovations are occurring only in laboratories or on the seabed.
