Energy in space can be constant, cheaper, more abundant and that completely changes the equation.

It is a limit that few people perceive, but it is not in technology, it is in energy, today the biggest obstacle for artificial intelligence to grow is no longer software or algorithms, it is the ability to generate computing power on a large scale, Musk seems to have taken this seriously before all his competitors, in a new announcement he revealed the Terafab, a project that can completely redefine the way the world produces chips.

The idea is simple to understand. Unite Tesla, SpaceX and He is not only thinking about Earth, part of the plan involves taking computing to space by creating data centers in orbit powered by practically unlimited solar energy because there is no night outside the planet.

To make it viable, he proposed two types of chips, a terrestrial chip designed to power autonomous cars and the humanoid robot Optimus, which he says can be produced on an even larger scale than the cars themselves, and facial chips, designed to operate on artificial intelligence satellites, forming a distributed computing network outside the planet, each unit would generate energy, process data and expand the capacity of AI without depending on terrestrial infrastructure.

This opens up a possibility that until recently seemed like science fiction, artificial intelligence ceasing to be limited to planet Earth and coming to exist on an orbital scale, Musk even suggested something more ambitious, in the future, this infrastructure could expand towards the Moon, creating an industrial base capable of operating at energy levels thousands of times higher than the current ones, it may seem far away, but there is an important point, all great revolutions begin like this, with a seemingly impossible idea.

Generating computing power at scale is only part of the equation, because you need to get to space first.
