The change of heavy transport

Electric urban technology

Cities are changing and transportation in cities is one of them. Consider heavy city transportation that could be silent, clean and efficient without changing the entire logic of urban operation. Volvo Trucks has just launched a new version of the Volvo FL Electric, a fully electric truck designed specifically for urban transportation.

With a gross weight of around 14 tons and a 180 kW electric motor, the model emerges as a more accessible entry option within the brand's electric line, meeting the growing demand for deliveries in urban centers, low-emission zones and densely populated areas.

Since the beginning of Volvo's electrification strategy, the FL was one of the first medium-sized trucks to receive 100% electric propulsion and now gains a configuration even more adjusted to the reality of cities, being compact, FL Electric was designed for narrow streets, frequent stops and door-to-door deliveries.

Smart electrical design

The electric motor eliminates the typical diesel noise, which makes a difference in residential areas and also reduces exhaust emissions to zero. Volvo offers the model with different wheelbases, axle configurations and battery packs, allowing the operator to choose only the necessary autonomy, something that helps reduce weight, increase payload and improve the profitability of the operation.

The great highlight is precisely in this design logic, less battery when no more battery is needed, according to Volvo, adjusting the energy capacity on the real route maximizes efficiency and cost benefit, in addition, the batteries were positioned so that they do not interfere with the installation of the body, maintaining compatibility with various types of urban use.

With a minimum width of around 2.4 m, the truck gains agility in congested environments, narrow ramps and restricted loading areas. This launch shows how the electrification of heavy transport is ceasing to be an experiment and becoming a practical and scalable solution. Instead of betting solely on giant and expensive trucks, Volvo is advancing where the impact is immediate in daily urban traffic, where noise, pollution and efficiency make a real difference for companies and those who live in cities.
