What if the next generation of jet engines powering the planet's most advanced defense drones no longer relied on traditional foundries, expensive molds, or months of manual machining? The U.S. company Beehive Industries has established a mass-production network capable of manufacturing over 8,000 jet engines annually using metal 3D printing.


The goal is to accelerate the production of propulsion systems for military drones and next-generation aircraft. The key strategy lies in laser powder bed fusion—a metal 3D printing process that uses lasers to fuse high-precision metal powder layer by layer, enabling the manufacture of extremely complex components that would be virtually impossible to produce using conventional methods.


Internal cooling channels, optimized geometries, and turbine blades can be produced as a single unit, eliminating hundreds of components, screws, and potential points of failure. In addition to simplifying assembly, this process reduces engine weight—thereby increasing aircraft range and efficiency. To transform these printed parts into ready-to-operate engines, Beehive has structured its production across two major specialized centers: Knoxville, Tennessee, is the hub for all additive manufacturing, where printers fuse metal with precision; meanwhile, in Cincinnati, components undergo final machining, finishing, and inspection processes.


The result of this new approach goes far beyond cost reduction.


Rather than competing with one another, the two facilities operate as complementary parts of a single, highly integrated production line. A projected capacity of over 8,000 engines per year completely shifts the industry paradigm. Beehive Industries demonstrates that the future of aerospace engineering will be defined less by traditional foundries and far more by the speed of lasers, digital models, and smart manufacturing.


The era of on-demand jet engine production has already begun, promising to fundamentally transform how the aircraft of the future are built.
