For decades, most refining was concentrated in Asia, creating a silent global dependency, where countries extract the mineral but need to ship it to another continent before it can be used. Now that is starting to change. Tesla's new refinery was designed to produce battery-grade lithium hydroxide in a quantity sufficient to power approximately 1 million electric vehicles per year; This is not just production, it is independence.

And there is an even more interesting detail, because the process used there is completely different from the traditional model; While most refineries use sulfuric acid, generating toxic waste and significant environmental impacts, Tesla implemented a completely acid-free alkaline leaching method. This process eliminates dangerous by-products and transforms the main waste and sand-like material that can be reused in the production of concrete, that is, what was previously industrial waste, now becomes raw material, and this reveals something greater; It is not just about producing clean energy, but about redesigning the entire production chain. Furthermore, by refining it directly in the United States, Tesla drastically reduces the need for intercontinental transportation, shortening the route of this material by tens of millions of kilometers. Less transportation means emissions, more efficiency and more strategic control. And that control is exactly the central point, because whoever controls the refining controls the access and whoever controls the access controls the scale, but producing energy on a large scale is only part of the problem because there is a risk that has accompanied this revolution from the beginning and that still worries the industry.
