At the beginning of 2026, the company Aimoga Robotics began the official implementation of the Wuyou R001 humanoid robot as an urban traffic control agent in Chinese cities such as Wuku and Hangzhou. The uniform, distinctive robot displays and occupies exactly the same physical space that was previously reserved for human police officers.

Its main function is simple and that is precisely why it is powerful, because it executes standardized hand gestures of stop, follow attention and wait, with human-like fluidity, maintaining the organized flow, but behind those movements there is a much deeper system, the humanoid is directly connected to the digital infrastructure of the city.

It communicates with traffic lights, monitors vehicles, accompanies pedestrians and analyzes risk patterns, if it detects a cyclist without a helmet, it emits an educap sound warning, if a car advances beyond the pedestrian crossing, it launches an immediate alert, if a pedestrian crosses outside the pedestrian crossing, it guides, does not fine, does not pursue, does not confront, for now it prevents.

All of this completely changes the logic of urban policing.

The objective, according to the company, is not to replace human police officers, it is to remove them from that sector, the intersections are among the most hostile environments in a city, constant exposure to toxic gases, loud noise and standing for hours, repetitive movements that generate injuries and a real risk of being run over.

While the Wuyou R001 takes care of the predictable routine, human police officers can focus on accidents, conflicts, investigations and situations that require judgment, empathy and complex decision making, and if you, like me, are wondering, why use a humanoid and not just smart cameras and traffic lights? The answer lies in psychology, human beings respond differently to physical presences, when a human-shaped body raises its arm in a stop gesture, the brain interprets that direct social order, it is faster, more intuitive and more difficult to ignore. In addition, there is the so-called observation effect, we do not behave the same as when faced with something that seems to be looking at us, the humanoid creates presence.
