Stops cell senescence.

Aging has always been treated as an immutable law of biology, a silent, progressive and until today inevitable process, but what if aging were not just a destiny, but a state that can slow down or even stop. Researchers at Cornell University's College of Veterinary Medicine have just presented a discovery that could profoundly change that logic.

They identified that microscopic structures called extracellular vesicles, small particles released by cells, are capable of blocking one of the main drivers of cellular aging, senescence; Senescence is the moment when the cell loses the ability to divide, grow and repair itself. It does not die immediately, it remains there dysfunctional, inflamed, hindering the surrounding tissues.

Over time, the accumulation of cells in entities contributes to wrinkles, muscle loss, cognitive decline, frailty and practically all age-related diseases, what the Cornell team discovered is that extracellular vesicles derived from embryonic stem cells manage to protect other cells from this process.

In the experiments, scientists extracted these vesicles from mice and added them to common cells already on the way to senescence. The result surprised even the researchers themselves. They saw that the treated cells simply did not age. While normal cells collapsed, lost function and stopped dividing, the cells that received the vesicles continued to grow, replicate and function as if they were young.

In other words, it's not a youth serum, it's not aggressive genetic reprogramming, it's not replacing cells, it's using natural biological messages to tell the cells to keep working. The author of the study herself described the process as, “harnessing the power of youth.” And if we manage to prevent someone from aging, how long will it take to try to apply this technology?
