The first robot arrested

The first robot arrested

Imagine walking calmly at night, looking at your cell phone and suddenly realizing that there is something standing right behind you, now imagine that that something is not a person, it is a humanoid robot, that was exactly what happened to a 70-year-old woman in Macau, China.

The incident happened around 9 at night in a residential complex, while walking distracted, the woman ended up colliding with a robot called G1 from the company Unitree. When she realized that there was a machine standing right behind her, the reaction was immediate, scared she yelled at the robot, "It's making my heart race." The scene caught the attention of the people around and quickly became a video that went viral on social media.

But what happened there was not exactly a "chase", according to those responsible for the robot, it was just trying to continue on its way, when the woman stopped to look at the cell phone, the robbery also stopped and since it could not go around her, it ended up standing right behind, enough to cause a huge scare.

After the incident, the police were called to the scene and in a scene that seems straight out of a movie, the robot was literally escorted by police, one of the officers even went so far as to put his hand on the shoulder of the machine as if he were dealing with a person, the woman was taken to the hospital for a medical evaluation.

Despite the scare, he decided not to file a complaint, the robot, for its part, was returned to its owner, an educational center that used it for promotional activities, but the episode raised an important discussion, with the advance of robotics, humanoids are beginning to appear more and more in public spaces, in China this is already a growing reality, some robots have been seen patrolling tourist areas, while others even help organize traffic in cities like Shanghai.

And this raises an inevitable question. What happens when machines and humans begin to share the same everyday spaces? Because unlike an application or a digital system, a robot occupies physical space, moves, reacts and can sometimes simply be in the wrong place, at the wrong time, transforming a common encounter into a completely unexpected experience.
