The first traffic police robot with authority

In the dense streets of Zhejiang, a silent urban experiment marks the arrival of a new type of public agent, a 1.80 tall humanoid robot called Hangxing n°1 assumes part of the traffic control and one of the busiest intersections in the city, it is not fiction, nor an isolated demonstration, it is the beginning of an automation that begins exactly where urban chaos reaches its limit.

The machine was developed by the Tactical Unit of the Traffic Police and began its tests on December 1, with cameras, sensors and standardized gestures modeled from real police officers, the human acts in the critical intervals of the flow of motorcycles, cars and pedestrians.

Its signals, stop, go or wait, are accompanied by a digital whistle and synchronized with the traffic light network, allowing the operation to happen without interruptions, but the decisive point is not the signaling, it is surveillance. The system identifies violations in real time.

Motorcyclists without helmets, drivers crossing pedestrian crossings, pedestrians advancing on red, upon detecting a deviation, the robot issues a calm, pre-recorded warning, designed to correct behavior without confrontation. Each incident is recorded and sent to a police database and during that initial phase, a human agent remains nearby, intervening only if alerts have no effect.

The humanoid operates between 6 and 8 hours per cycle thanks to interchangeable batteries that allow it to act and then automatically return to the charging base, the integration with the City Brain platform expands the scope of the system by connecting the robots with urban logic in real time, traffic light failures, emerging risks, flow patterns that change minute by minute.

Engineers sharpen the robots' judgment by reviewing recordings of the most critical times, correcting false alarms noted in initial tests, shadows and wind gusts that confused the vision model, each interaction adjusts decision making and consolidates operation for the real environment, according to the developers, almost all components were custom built, from the waterproof housing to the multilingual voice system.

Officials say future capabilities may include complex language models, allowing robots to answer questions, guide routes and act as a public education tool.
