This problem comes from Raymond Chang’s Chemistry (14th Edition), in Chapter 1: Measurement and the Properties of Matter.
It focuses on some of the most fundamental definitions in chemistry, which are essential for understanding how matter is classified and studied.


🔹 Problem 1.45:

Give an example for each of the following terms:

(a) Matter
(b) Substance
(c) Mixture


Although these terms may seem simple, they form the conceptual foundation of chemistry.
Being able to clearly distinguish between matter, substances, and mixtures is crucial for topics such as:

  • Physical and chemical properties
  • Separation techniques
  • Chemical reactions
  • Classification of materials

This problem encourages clear thinking and the correct use of scientific language.
