Strobe lighting outdoors - Outdoor / Environmental Portrait contest entry

It can be tough to shoot outdoor portraits in Alaska, simply because the winter season dominates the year and shooting in studio is hard to beat for convenience. This summer I actually managed to leave the comforts of my studio and take my photo gear outside.

Camera was a Sony A7R with the Sony 100mm f2.8 STF OSS lens. This lens is amazing in that it can create a totally smooth bokeh. Normally light coming through trees can look very harsh, but this lens counters that very well.

This was lit with a single elinchrom ELB400 with a 69" Elinchrom Rotalux softbox. Because the sun was completely set for this photo, this could have easily been done with a photek softlighter and a single speedlight, as there was not much daylight left to fight.
