Hello dear friends,
I hope you all are doing well and spending a beautiful life with your loved ones. I wish you all happiness and peace.

The Dhaka International Trade Fair has officially begun, running from January 3 to January 31. Every year, this fair becomes a major hub of commercial activities, bringing together local and international businesses under one roof. This year, countries such as India, Pakistan, Turkey, China, and several others are participating, strengthening regional and global trade relations with Bangladesh.

The International Trade Fair is not just a marketplace for buying and selling products; it is a mirror of a country’s economic strength, industrial progress, and export potential. Each year, transactions worth millions of taka take place through this fair. For many small and medium enterprises (SMEs), it serves as a crucial platform to generate significant revenue, promote their brands, and connect directly with consumers. Large corporations also use this opportunity to showcase new products, innovations, and technologies.

Due to an office day off, I had the chance to visit the fair in the afternoon. The presence of visitors was noticeable, reflecting strong public interest. However, the nature of the crowd revealed an important economic reality. Most people were seen around household goods stalls, indicating a growing preference for essential products over luxury items. This trend clearly reflects the current economic situation, where rising living costs have made consumers more cautious about spending.

As it was the end of the month, many visitors appeared to have limited cash in hand. As a result, a large number of people came mainly to explore, compare prices, and plan future purchases rather than spend heavily. One striking observation was the widespread use of online and digital payment systems. Mobile banking and cashless transactions were highly visible, highlighting Bangladesh’s progress toward financial inclusion and a more digitized economy.

Food stalls offering both local and international cuisines added another dimension to the fair. Beyond entertainment, these food businesses contribute significantly to the economy by creating employment opportunities and supporting supply chains involving raw materials, transportation, and service sectors. The food industry, even within a fair setting, represents a dynamic economic cycle.

Overall, the Dhaka International Trade Fair plays a vital role in the country’s economic and commercial landscape. It creates opportunities for entrepreneurs, supports domestic industries, and strengthens international trade connections. At the same time, it reflects the real purchasing power and consumer behavior of ordinary people. Behind the lights, decorations, and festive atmosphere, the fair presents a living picture of Bangladesh’s economy—one that showcases both its potential and its challenges.
