In addition to its exotic tourism potential and its abundant lobster shrimp, Simeulue District holds another potential, namely the producer of rattan that has the topnotch quality.

Each month, almost a dozen thousand stems of various types of rattan Simeulue are sold to various provinces in Indonesia, and one of the most numerous areas is to Kabupaten Cirebon, West Java.

One of the largest rattan producing areas in Aceh, there are several types of rattan produced from the forests of this archipelago, Banau rattan is the most famous species, and its production is abundant.

Meanwhile, various other types of rattan are supplied to the island of Java as raw materials for household cars and souvenirs.

Rattan that the consumers of Java Island that is the type of Rattan Manau, Manau Kapur, Manau deformity, Akar Manau, Sideken, Sibaliu, Ring, Rattan worm, Sibaliu and slimit.

Rattan delivered to the area after being processed 50 percent by boiling with kerosene, dried, smoked, washed and cleaned before shipment.

Simeulue forest rattan is spread in 10 sub-districts, Central Simeulue, West Simeulue, East Simeulue, West Teupah, Central Teupah, South Teupah, Salang, Alafan, Teluk Dalam and Simeulue Cut District.
