Journal Entry #4: The Recipe Box Project Begins
Did someone special in your family keep recipes in a card file? on a rolodex? in a book? or all of the above? Well my mom did all of the above, but mostly over the years in a set of card files. Some of the recipes are in her own handwriting and some have personal notes from others. They are from a day gone by, before computers and online storage and cell phones and iPads. My best guess is they range in date from the 60's to the 90's.
They are little treasures waiting to be discovered again. So I have decided to scan them and make them available on-line one of these days. Today with the help of a good friend Shelly Gustafson, we began this project. It seemed appropriate to take some pictures of them as we started -- so here you go.
The four recipe boxes:

Opened boxes and 2 cards
Pies were my mom's specialty and these two cards are cherry pie and peach pie.

You can almost read these, but the scanned version will ultimately, hopefully be better!
We have now scanned some samples and discovered that sorting and organizing the cards will be the next step. We will be using Neat Desk hardware and software to scan and organize the cards. Only a few of them will ultimately be kept for the family scrapbook. The pictures will have to tell the story of a day gone by.
There is a lot of love in these boxes and good memories too. Growing up we had many shared meals with friends and family and of course recipe cards exchanged hands in the process.
Enjoy and let me know what you have done to save and share your family treasures. I will look forward to your input and suggestions in the comments!
Blessings,
