The Diary Game: A Day of Service and Good Food [03/01/2025]

Hello Steemit family 👋

Welcome back to another page of my diary. Today, I’m opening my heart once again. To share with you how I sent my day, it was fill of enjoyment and also work, so let's dive in..

🌅 MORNING

A Fresh Start and Animal Care
The day began early with a cool morning breeze. After waking up and heading outside to get some fresh air, my first priority was checking on the animals.

checking the Ducklings

I went out to check on the mother duck and her little ducklings. It was heartening to see them all together, scavenging in the yard near the puddles. They are growing so fast! After making sure they were settled, I took a quick morning selfie to capture the early light before heading out for my community duties.

🧹 Church Cleanup. Since it was Saturday, it was time for the weekly cleanup at the church.

The Sanctuary: I joined others to sweep the floors, arrange the colorful plastic chairs, and ensure the instruments were positioned correctly. It always feels good to start the weekend by putting the house of God in order. The sunlight streaming through the windows made the whole hall feel peaceful and ready for Sunday service.

My 🍛 Breakfast: Fueling Up

After finishing at the church, I worked up quite an appetite.
The Meal: For breakfast, I had a generous portion of Jollof Rice mixed with beans. It was the perfect savory meal to give me the energy I needed for the rest of my chores, it was so enjoying.

AFTERNOON

Preparing the Bitter Leaf

The afternoon was all about food preparation. I went out to the garden to harvest fresh Bitter Leaf from the plant.

The Squeeze: This is the most labor intensive part! I sat down with a large silver basin and spent time washing and squeezing the leaves to remove the intense bitterness. You can see the green foam in the basin, that’s a sign of hard work! Once they were properly processed and softened, I set them aside, ready for the evening pot.

🍌 Lunch: A Delicious Treat

Before diving into the main cooking, I prepared a special lunch for myself.

The Spread: I fried some ripe plantains (dodo) until they were golden brown and made a rich, spicy tomato-based sauce. I served this alongside a smooth bowl of Pap. Sitting outside to eat this meal was the highlight of my afternoon.

💈 A Quick Grooming Break

In between my cooking tasks, I noticed my hair was getting a bit full.

The Fan: I took a moment to cool off in front of the standing fan and checked my reflection. It was definitely time to make sure my hair was neat and tidy for the upcoming Sunday service.

🥘 EVENING

The Main Event (Dinner)

Finally, it was time to put those squeezed bitter leaves to use.
The Soup: I spent the evening over the stove, carefully combining my ingredients to make a rich, thick Bitter Leaf Soup. I used red palm oil, which gave the soup that beautiful orange glow, and let it simmer until the flavors were perfectly blended.

After a long day of working, cleaning, and prepping, there was nothing better than sitting down to a hot bowl of homemade soup for dinner.
