Life with growing responsibilities

Back in 2020, I had filed a registration form to appear in the exam conducted by the government for the recruitment of personnel in the accounts section of the Rural Development Department. The exam was held in November 2020, and when the result came later in December that year, I found my name in the list of selected candidates. From there on, my life entered a different stage. Until then, I had no major responsibilities on my shoulders, and I had no permanent source of income either. Now it was time to enter a new phase where a huge load of responsibilities was going to come over me. At the same time, there was both excitement and concern about being appointed, and I was afraid whether I would be able to do my job effectively and efficiently.

Later that year, we were asked to join our department, and more precisely, it was on 9 October 2021 when I joined at the BDO headquarters at Block Nagam. From that point onwards, I started becoming friends with new people whom I was meeting for the first time, and only one among them was my former classmate from high school. Later, in the service, we had to undergo training sessions at different places in the district and division, and there we came to meet new people who were part of the fraternity that had just come into existence. The bond with these new people started to grow stronger with every passing day, and most of us being bachelors had enough time to spend together. We went on trips to different parts of the valley and spent some quality time together. We enjoyed different scenes and moments and made memories for life. We would plan trips whenever we had holidays in a row.

When everything was going well, some of our friends got married, and that again became a turning point in our lives and friendships. These friends hardly get any time to spend with us now. Whenever we have a couple of holidays, we rarely make any plan for a trip because we all know that the married ones won’t get permission from their partners to spend time with us. Instead, they spend this time with their partners, and rightly so, because it is now their turn.

It actually disappoints us. I, along with two other friends, am yet to be married, but the majority of our friends in the circle are now married, and they hardly get an opportunity throughout the year to go out with us to any tourist place in the valley. This is actually a stage of life, and we have to move on with it. Different stages of life are to be enjoyed in their own ways, and now that we have come to this stage, we hardly complain. The days when we used to enjoy together and have fun together are now gone. Now we not only have to face responsibilities as government officials but also the responsibilities that come with running a family. That is life, and we have to go on with it.

Thank you for going through my post. Have a great time ahead.
