Let's celebrate International Kindness Day
Weep away tears
Give hope to the hopeless
Be a reason why someone smile
Make a positive impact.
Welcome to my blog, I'm @Julietbella.
Do you consider yourself a kind person?
Yes, I consider myself a kind person. Even when I have only a little, I still put aside my worries, my problems, and my challenges just to solve someone else’s problem. To me, helping another person is like helping myself. I know I can’t solve all the problems in the world, but there is something about kindness — it brings deep fulfillment to my heart. It is part of who I am. I was born with this spirit, and I will continue being kind without regrets. I don’t do it for praise or attention; I do it because kindness is my nature.
Have you ever performed an act of kindness? If so, tell us about your experience. How did you feel afterward?
Kindness may look like an ordinary word, but to me, it carries a huge meaning and an even greater impact. You don’t need to own the whole world or have millions in your account to show kindness. Kindness is simply the act of putting a smile on someone’s face, wiping their tears, giving hope to the hopeless, bringing joy to a heart in turmoil, and offering peace to someone battling silent storms. Sometimes, kindness is just giving someone a reason to breathe again and that is priceless.
I love giving peace to people who don’t even believe they deserve it, or who think they may never experience peace again. I love bringing happiness to hearts that have been tied down by troubles. I love wiping away tears, giving someone a reason to breathe again, and reminding them not to give up on life.
One day, as I was walking on the street, I saw a man who looked completely lost. He was talking to himself, saying he had not eaten for two days. My heart broke. I thought to myself, “God, You have given me food, shelter, hope, even a future. But this man can barely survive.” I checked my purse, it was my last card. But inside me, a voice said, Give it to him. I didn’t know what I would eat next, but I knew I had to wipe away his tears and make him smile again.
At first, I wanted to hand him the money, but something made me stop. Instead, I took him to the market so he could pick what he truly needed and he choose tubers of yam. He chose items within what I could afford, and seeing happiness return to his face was worth more than anything else. He prayed for me, showered blessings on my head, and honestly, the blessings he spoke felt far greater than the little I gave. It was a powerful encounter I will never forget.
Another unforgettable moment happened in Onitsha market. I saw a young girl, beautiful and smart, crying bitterly. My heart became heavy. I gently approached her and asked, “Why are you crying in the middle of the market? Is there no other place you could cry? I know you are hurting, but talk to me.” She was crying so much that she could barely speak, so I helped her calm down first.
She shared her story, she was only 8 years old and should have been in school during school hours, but she was hawking because her family could not afford her school fees. When I asked how much, she said ₦5,000. I kept quiet for a moment, wondering how life could be so harsh that a family struggles to afford such a small amount.
I asked her to follow me. At first, she was scared, but I reassured her. I took her to a POS agent, withdrew the exact amount she needed, and placed the money in her hands. Her reaction touched me deeply. She danced, she cried tears of joy, and knelt, lifting her hands to heaven as she showered blessings upon me. She told me something I will never forget: “One day, someone who is not your family, not your friend, not anyone you even expect… that person will pay your school fees. And it will happen again and again.” Her words felt like a blessing spoken into my spirit, and I will carry that moment with me forever.
Are you one of those people who put aside your own worries to help others?
Yes, I am. Every act of kindness I have done required me to put aside my own problems, fears, and needs. When I help someone, I treat their problem as if it were my own, because I believe that even small gestures can change lives. I don’t do it for praise or recognition; I do it because seeing someone smile, giving peace to a troubled heart, or restoring hope is the greatest fulfillment I could ever experience. Kindness is my nature, and I will continue to live by it, always striving to make the world a little better, one act at a time.
Kindness is not about having much; it is about giving what you can, touching lives, and offering hope. Each smile, each blessing, each hand extended is a ripple that can grow into waves of love. This International Kindness Day, let us all remember that even the smallest act can bring light into the darkest corners of someone’s life.
