The Little Kitten I Still Remember

in RECREATIVE STEEM13 hours ago

How are you all doing? I suddenly remembered something, so I thought I’d share it with you. Have you ever seen a stray dog or a little kitten on the street and suddenly felt a strange ache in your heart? Something exactly like that happened to me last year, on a rainy night.

That day, I came home from work pretty tired. It was raining nonstop outside, and there was a cold wind blowing. I changed my clothes and lay down on the bed. Just then, I heard a very soft scratching sound from the other side of the door.

At first, I didn’t pay much attention. I thought maybe some paper or something was being blown around by the wind. But after a little while, I heard a tiny, weak “meow.”

I got up and opened the door just a little, and there it was—a tiny kitten sitting outside. It was completely soaked. Its fur was stuck to its little body, and it was shaking badly from the cold. Usually, cats run away when they see people, but this one didn’t. It just looked up at me with those big, round eyes, looking completely helpless.

I don’t know if you’ll believe me, but that look really broke my heart. It was such a tiny little thing, left out in the middle of this terrible weather. Who had left it there? Where was its mother?

Without thinking too much, I wrapped it gently in an old towel I had in the room and picked it up. I dried it off as best as I could, then brought some rice and milk from the kitchen and put them in front of it. At first, it was scared and backed away. But I guess hunger was stronger than its fear. In no time, it finished everything.

After eating, it didn’t move around anymore. It curled up in one corner of the room and fell asleep. I was sitting at the table working on my laptop, but every now and then I’d look over at it. It felt strange to see. Just an hour earlier, it had been trembling with fear, and now it was sleeping so peacefully.

For the next three or four days, it stayed around my room. Whenever I came back from work, I’d find it waiting near the door. Sometimes it would rub its little body against my legs. Honestly, I got attached to that little kitten in just a few days.

But you know how it is with stray animals. You can’t really expect them to stay in one place forever. One morning, I woke up and found that it was gone. I looked everywhere—the stairs, the nearby alley, even around the corner—but there was no sign of it.

I felt pretty sad that day. Later, I tried to make myself feel better by thinking that maybe its mother had found it and taken it back, or maybe it had found another safe place on its own.

A lot of time has passed since then. I don’t know if that little kitten is still alive or what it looks like now. But even today, whenever it rains heavily outside and I stand by the window with a cup of tea, somehow I remember that little face.

I never thought that just a few days with a little stranger could leave such a lasting mark on my heart. But one thing still gives me some peace—at least on that cold, rainy night, that little kitten wasn’t alone.

So, what did you think of the story? I’d really love to know what you think.
