The dairy game || 1/04/2026 || How I Made My Delicious Yam Porridge and Finally Satisfying My Craving ||
Hello amazing people, Happy New Month to you all, I welcome everyone to the month of April.
Hope you’re all doing well and having a good day wherever you are.
I am @praizclassic01, I welcome you to my diary and today I’m excited to share something I’ve been craving for a while now… Yam Porridge!
To be honest, this isn’t a meal I just woke up and decided to cook today.
I’ve actually been craving it for days.
In fact, I even went as far as buying scent leaf earlier, hoping I would prepare it… but no time
So the leaf just stayed there waiting patiently.
Finally, today, I said—
“No more excuses, we’re cooking this thing today!”
I started by peeling my yam and cutting it into pieces.
After that, I washed it properly and set it on the cooker to start boiling while I prepared the rest of the ingredients.
Getting the Ingredients Ready
While the yam was on fire, I moved on to preparing everything else.
First, I pounded my pepper to give it that fresh, rich taste.
Then I sliced my onions, nice and ready to go into the pot.
Next was the crayfish. I pounded it as well to bring out that strong, local flavor that makes porridge yam taste complete 😌
Now for the fish…
Before using dry fish, I made sure to wash it properly with salt.
Washing dry fish with salt is important because it helps remove dirt, sand, and any unwanted smell. It also cleans it properly and makes it safer and better tasting when cooked.
Preparing the Scent Leaf
Now, about the scent leaf…
Since I bought it about 2 days ago, it had already dried up a bit.
So what I did was simple:
I pounded it lightly, then put it in a bowl and added a little water.
This helps it soften and regain some texture before adding it to the pot.
Small trick, but it makes a difference.
The Cooking Process
By this time, the yam had already started boiling.
So I began adding my ingredients, firstly salt, then onions, pepper, crayfish, fish, and everything needed to bring the porridge to life.
I allowed everything to cook together, letting the flavors mix properly.
At this point, the aroma alone was enough to make anyone hungry.
Finally, I added the scent leaf and palm oil to finish it off.
And just like that… my long-awaited yam porridge was ready.
See food, Lol!
After craving this for days, you can imagine the satisfaction.
That first spoon? Worth it.
If you enjoy yam porridge, you should definitely try this method
One thing I really love about this meal is how flexible it is—you can use any vegetable of your choice, whether it’s scent leaf, ugu, spinach… just work with what you have and make it your own.
Yam porridge is one of those meals that is widely enjoyed across Africa, especially here in Nigeria. It’s simple, rich, and packed with flavor—one of those dishes that never disappoints.
Honestly, it’s more than just food… it’s comfort in a plate
So if you’ve been craving it like I was, stop delaying
Go ahead and make yours—you’ll definitely enjoy it!
