An Overview Of Traditional Marriage Rites Inthe Nso Clan

Hello friends and family members accept special greetings from this end of globe.I m today I decided to make a write up about traditional marriage Rites in the Nso.Which happens to be my own clan where I hail from inthe northwest region of Cameroon.Traditional regalia is always outfits for the day .

In my country Cameroon 🇨🇲 we have about 250tribes with different culture and tradition.In terms of their marriage rites .The Nso clan is just one of the tribes amongst the many tribes listed .Nso is found in the northwest region of Cameroon under Bui division .

I discovered our tribe traditional marriage is totally different from other tribes in Cameroon.When it comes to traditional marriage right . The bride of the bride will always depend on how the mother bride prices was paid .Especially for the first girl child in the family . The bride price will be paid at the mother’s family compound.

While the rest of children who are not first girl child their bride price is paid at the father’s big family compound.Depending on the big man or chief in the compound demands .Normally bride is supposed to be a tin of palmoil, small bag salt ,colanuts and 20litres of palmwine .But at days passes by the traditional rites of marriage keep changing .

Most families or big compounds still respect this .In the day of the traditional marriage day the groom provides what the traditional demands as rites in the family compound.Every items listed most be given some chiefs will decide to ask for some Ransome of money .To provide some needs for women in the big family compound known “Wi Ba”

Now all the what is been demanded by the groom is present .The traditional commence .In the African tradition we believe there is always that ancestral lineage between the God and the land.incarnation are made for the God to bless the marriage by the big man of the compound.

After, the family of groom are asked to present traditional rite of marriage requirements. Now the bride is given palmwine in the cup to give it to her beloved husband to be to drink to show that she has accepted to married him.The groom will do the same to the wife to be give her palmwine to drink .

Now according to my tradition they have now married traditionally. The wife will be taken out to public by a group of women in public associated with songs .To present the bride to the public as she has been given to marriage.

Everyone is happy and dances so will to welcome the bride and the groom.Now the feasting part on in .People are entertained with foods to eat and drink .Most food prepared are always traditional meals .This is the highest time you can enjoy eating many traditional meals in my clan Nso such as fufucorn huckleberry and katiti.

Other meals can follow now after,eating there is always partying part depending on the family .All entails entertainment dancing and drinking associated with food .Where traditional music are been played .

To conclude, the Nso clan is one of the tribes in Cameroon that has the cheapest and beautiful traditional rites .Some tribes are very expensive in Cameroon to diary a woman .At times you see most women not getting married legally or traditionally because of the heavy bride price .Majority of men still find themselves still struggling to provide for traditional rites because the traditional part demands a lot.
