Trying To Promote Steem - My Painting Got 11.4k Upvotes on Reddit!

in #reddit5 years ago (edited)

I've always wanted to join Reddit mainly because most of the fresh dank memes are there but I was afraid it might distract me from doing anything important so I kept postponing it.

It was until my boyfriend @acidyo convinced me to join Reddit under my awesome username @metallicake. I was like ok, just gonna check the memes and stuff. Never planned to post or comment anything.

It was until OCD launched their OCD Sharing is Caring Initiative, which encourages Steemians to share their Steem posts on Reddit, that I decided to post my art on Reddit and hopefully get their attention and share my Steem profile with them (to increase Steem's visibility). I posted my "Repressed Memories" painting on the subreddit r/art as an image. I just thought if you post direct links on Reddit, it won't get as much attention compared to an image file. Besides, this subreddit has a rule that it should be a direct image/video file.

I originally posted my Steem post URL in the comment section, just trying to get the Redditors to visit my Steem post for the concept. Unfortunately, this subreddit doesn't allow any links so the bot automatically deleted my comment. I was like, okay, if they are interested with my works they will visit my profile and see my Steem link there anyway. :D

2 hours later, I already got 300 upvotes and it rapidly increased to 7k in just a few hours. I got a lot of comments and messages.

Because I hate posting screenshots, here is a drawing of a conversation of me and @acidyo about me becoming a Reddit thot.

My notifications were kinda bombarded with comments, which was nice. It was the top post in that subreddit for a few hours. After a day, it reached 11.4k upvotes. Of course, I have to brag. XD

As I said earlier, I hate posting screenshots but now's an exception. :p

You can visit the Reddit post here.

My karma went from 63 to 5k real quick. @Acidyo and an anonymous user gave me Gold Award which makes my account Premium. 2 anonymous users gave me a Silver Award. :D

I gained a few followers on Instagram too!

Sharing Steem posts on Reddit and other social media sites

When I first started on Steem, my goal was just to be hidden and not share my Steem links to others outside the platform. But now, we should all stop hiding and share our Steem links. That's the goal, right?

I think Reddit is a good platform to share our photography, art, and other shit. I stumbled across a few authors who joined Steem cos of Reddit. So, these efforts are worth it.

Well, I hope this inspired you even just a bit. Join OCD Sharing is Caring Initiative too as it rewards you with Steem for sharing posts on Reddit. I suggest you do the same thing as I did as well (Posting a direct image/video in subreddits and post the Steemit link in the comments). Of course, be mindful of each subreddit rules. If they don't want links to be posted, it should be respected. We don't want them to think Steemians are messy after all, right? Or are we actually messy? HMMMMMMM. :p

So let's bring the Redditors to Steem! :D

Wow that’s awesome I’ve been trying to bump up my medium game to try and get some people Interested in steem still works for my big break through like this, it doesn’t come easy so for real well done

I didn’t know reddit thots were a thing, I thought that was reserved for Instagram and Twitch lol

Yay! I've been trying to invite my real-life artist friends too and it's hard to convince them. Pretty sure inviting people from other platforms are difficult as well but I guess we just need to show them we are doing great here so they'll sign up and give it a try!

Well I know thots are more common on Insta and Twitch hahah but they have big fan base on Reddit too XD

I miss getting that amount of comments on posts, can't imagine what steem would be like with the amount of readers Reddit has as they'll be more incentivized to vote and comment here and possibly less trolling as there's always some of that on centralised platforms.

Well deserved though! :) They really try and get users to stay on Reddit as much as possible now since everything is about as revenue.

You can't even source to the real creators anymore to give them credit, @cheetah would lose its mind on Reddit.

True, they feel free to troll because they know there are no heavy consequences. Thank you! Yeah, but I guess @cheetah will be happy for the sudden increase of prey :p
I still think Steem is better when it comes to content, as we highly encourage original content compared to other platforms.

That is awesome @hiddenblade, congrats!

It would be great if those who are active on other platforms shared more across them and spread the word. Glad you posted with creativecoin too as that should get you a bigger vote from me over there :D

True! Especially those with 20k followers and above! I know a Steemian who has 300k followers on Facebook. Yes, I'm talking about you @barbarabezina! :D And others who got 55k or something followers on Youtube.

And thanks! It's my first post with creativecoin tag lol.

A little bit of shameless Steem promotion would go a long way I think.

Hahaha! I hope I'll be noticed enough on Reddit to be able to actually get them on Steem. And you should invite your friends too! I know Filipinos are getting more open minded with crypto and other online things, mainly cos of Rigen and that forex trend. Lol

That's really neat, hiddi! You're shooting towards fame and glory!!!! Bring Steem with you pls \o/

THAT IS THE MAIN GOAL! :D You should do it too, spidey! I know they'll love your works there!!!

Nicely done! I think I will try my luck with some photography in an appropriate subreddit. Those redditors should stop wasting their time and come to Steem :D

Thank you! :D

Holy shit, that's awesome!!! I've never Reddit'ed and am not sure where I'd start if I did :D But this is amazing and I'm happy your work got that many 'eyes' - that's seriously something we need on Steem too :-) In the end artists want to be seen. Cheers!

Thank you! Reddit might be confusing at first but you'll learn it pretty fast. :D

Ok I was wondering what the ocd thing was, that’s actually pretty genius, hope it works.

Congratulations on getting reddit famous though!
