🎥 Chernobyl
First episode date: 6 May 2019
Final episode date: 3 June 2019
It was the worst nuclear accident in history, but Chernobyl could be a weird topic. The facts of the former Soviet Union Chernobyl nuclear power plant explosion are already well known. However, HBO's Mid-Chernobyl Trilogy, which dealt with this strange Chernobyl case, recorded 35% of TV ratings and 52% of digital viewership when it aired in the United States setting a new record of drama digital viewership, it set a new digital ratings record for HBO drama, beating the seemingly unbreakable Game of Thrones (46 percent) with 35 percent of TV ratings and 52 percent of digital ratings of 35 percent and 52 percent. In addition, The Drama also won 10 Emmy awards last year.
What has attracted so much attention to this drama?
The movie starts with the scene where Valery legasov(Jared Harris), who is an existential nuclear physicist that was in charge of handling the Chernobyl explosion, actually committed suicide on April 26, 1988, exactly two years after the incident took place. While raising the issue of "truth" and "false," it has already been known that the Chernobyl nuclear accident is due to the structural problems of nuclear power plants in the former Soviet Union, which use graphite as a moderator of nuclear reactors, as well as the excessive and reckless operation of nuclear power plant managers obsessed with promotion and desire for performance.
However, the truth of the case was revealed, but the horrible nuclear explosion and the details of the process were buried in the numbers. It's a trap of numbers. The number of victims of the Chernobyl nuclear accident is estimated to be at least 9000 and up to 115,000 or more. The Chernobyl plant was permanently shut down, and 90,000 residents were forced to move. About 7,000 people died within five years of the accident, and about 3,000 square kilometers around the Chernobyl plant are off limits and still uninhabited.
At least 110,000 people, one day, this was worse than the Hiroshima Bomb Explosion.
The amount of radiation released during the first explosion at the Chernobyl plant is said to be as much as 4 million Roentgen. The amount of radiation projected during X-ray is 0.5 Roentgen. It is said that even a few hundred units can't prevent gamma rays from radiation with normal protective equipment.
So much in this drama as it really uncovers many, and you will stay glued watching it if you really want to know how this actually happened, I must commend the director of this series also, as he was outstanding in every aspect.
Chernobyl, a drama about truth and lies, reveals the truth of lies and the reality of the former Soviet system. Is that a problem only with the rigid system of the rigid Soviet Union? It was definitely broken through Fukushima, which boasts the world's best safety. Rather, the desire of capital based on efficiency and profit may work more horribly. The former Soviet Union could still die right away, and there were even unnamed heroes who committed themselves and sacrificed themselves to the community despite their inability to be victimized by radiation in the end, preventing it from turning into a greater disaster. In our own society, there can be such heroes, and it is difficult to see such tragic situations and the emergence of heroes in the first place. The truth is still floundering in false disguise.
This drama may dramatised certain scenes and maybe over-exaggerates the radiation readings a bit but does it really matter?
Cause High radiation is high radiation even if you show it to be a tad bit more scaled up than usual.
And the first statements from the makers as the series commences mention the fact that it's not a docu-series, rather a dramatisation of the true events.
Jared Harris is perfect as Valery Legasov. He was simply brilliant in his acting. He deserves an Oscar for his performance, and I truly believe that this is one of the finest shows ever made with great ensemble cast and background score that intensifies the high tension situation.
