1876 - Definitely the victory of the Indians under the Seated Bull over the American army in the Battle of Little Big Horn in Montana.
Sitting Bull (in Dakota Tatanka Yotanka, Tatanka Iyotake, born around 1831, died December 15, 1890) - chief and shaman of the Hunkpapa tribe of the Teton Dakots (Siuks) group.
From 1863 in strong opposition to whites. Co-author of the spectacular victory of the combined forces of the Dakots and Cheyennes in the Battle of Little Bighorn in 1876. After the battle, he led his people to Canada, where he found shelter from the American cavalry chasing him. After unsuccessful peace negotiations between the commander and the American delegation, he decided to stay in Canada, where he was protected by Canadian police. The Americans decided to deprive the Sioux of food by burning the prairie near the border with Canada and by blasting the bison as the main source of Indian food.
In 1881 he was forced to return to the United States, where he was closed in the reserve. In 1885, for four months, he performed in Buffalo Bill's Wild West Show, but when Buffalo Bill offered him a trip to Europe, the Seated Bull refused, claiming he had to stay in his country. In 1890, after settling in the reserve, he was shot by Indian policemen serving in the US Army, who were ordered to arrest him for participating in the forbidden Dance of the Spirit. These policemen were Bull's Head and Red Tomahawk.
Two weeks later, an attempt to calm the mood in the Pine Ridge reserve by the army led to the massacre of the Wounded Knee group of another major Sioux chief, the Great Feet.
Battle of the Little Bighorn (also known as the Indian Battle of Greasy Grass) - battle of June 25, 1876 between soldiers of the 7th Cavalry Regiment of the US Army commanded by Lt. Col. George A. Custer, and North American Indians, mainly Dakotami, led by Mad Horse (Tashunka Witko), Sitting Bull (Tatanka Yotanka) and other chiefs.
The Indians won the battle, all the soldiers of the top companies of the Seventh Regiment and the civilians accompanying them died, but this did not stop the conquest of the Great Plains and the Black Mountains by the Americans.
