You gotta watch the video to see what Im talking about. Skip to the middle to see the Sonosphere in action..
What is the Sonosphere? The Sonosphere is a kinetic and interactive art/sound sculpture, first created by Louisa Firethorne in 2002. The Sonosphere integrates science, art and music in a way that has never been seen before. Over the last decade it has transformed into a truly amazing installation, which has touched many people’s lives through the unique experience it provides. The Sonosphere features an 8ft diameter sphere of copper tubing, fitted with LED lights, that rotates around a fixed Plexiglas platform in the center of the sphere. The platform is fitted with transducers that create the effect of a life-sized Chladni Plate, designed to hold 1 or 2 people at a time. The sphere can rotate fast or slow, and is fitted with a variable control. The Sonosphere requires an operator at all times. The spinning of the sphere, and the vibration of the Plexiglas platform, give the experiencer not only a full body experience of sound waves, but also contributes to the visual and artistic components of the structure to give the user a more holistic experience of art, music and science combined into one contraption. The Sonosphere has been used for meditation, feeling more embodied, hypnotherapy, art therapy, next-level music listening, sound massage and has been shown to produce a calming effect in almost anyone, including autistic children. The Sonosphere also offers deaf and blind people a people a new way to participate in art and music with others.!
