Secret about Tardigrade Super Strong 'Water Bear' [part.3]
Uniqueness Tardigrade
Yes, tardigrade has its own physique, with its rear-faced hind legs, cute yet strange appearance, as if it were a boneless creature, but keep in mind that that's not what makes them famous. What makes them famous is because of their extremophile ability.
Scientists have also frozen tardigrade to a temperature of -272 degrees Celsius for 20 hours. When the temperature is restored, they are also straight back as before as if nothing happened. They have also been placed on the surface of ice at a temperature of -200 degrees Celsius for 20 years and the result is the same, they can live and be active again. Researchers have also tried to boil them alive, trying to crush them with a pressure of 5,801 psi, making them choked with various toxic gases like Carbon Monoxide, Carbon Dioxide, Nitrogen and Sulfur Dioxide, even they have also been cast into space to see whether they can survive from solar ultraviolet radiation, and again the results are the same, they can stay alive !.
All of these things make them the champions of the strongest creatures that ever existed and make a creature called human beings even hat cap. But the question? how do they do it? The answer: Anoxybiosis and Cryptobiosis, these are two of the three features of Tardigrade, the other being "Active" or otherwise known as "Life". This is the condition where they walk, eat, sleep, wake up, kimpoi, fight etc. But if for example their oxygen supply is suddenly reduced dramatically, they can change themselves like Stay Puft Marshmallow Man and are on the status of Anoxybiosis until they can breathe again.
Next up is Cryptobiosis. Tardigrade needs water, Tardigrade in this non-metabolism mode is called Tun, and a Tun can not be destroyed or killed. Add a little water, then a Tun will soon turn back into an adorable water bear and get back on the move like nothing has ever happened.
