Eating Fries More Than 2x Per Week Could Increase Your Risk of Death Says New Study
A new study was recently published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, that was an 8 year long study that sought to investigate the effects of fried potato consumption on human health. The study involved 4,400 male and female participants, they were between the ages of 45 to 79. When the 8 year study was completed, researchers found that roughly 236 of their participants had passed away.
They found that for those who consumed fried potatoes more than 2x per week, that it doubled their risk of death.
Fried potatoes didn't just involve French fries either, they also say it could be hash browns and tater tots, any sort of fried potato. They didn't find any connection between the consumption of regular baked white potatoes and death.
French fries and other fried potato products are a major staple of the American diet.
It's estimated that Americans on average will consume about 29 lbs of fries every single year. When it comes to potatoes, this is one of the most popular and frequently consumed vegetable within the US. Sales of just tomatoes and potatoes alone are said to make up roughly half of all the vegetables that are eaten in the US market.
Researchers say that more investigation is still needed in this area, in order to further understand the correlation between the two. But this isn't the first time that high processed and starchy foods have been suggested by researchers to be bad for us.
Just a few months ago, British scientists were issuing a warning about the results of their own research in this area. They concluded that there might be a risk of cancer when it comes to overcooked and starchy food. And they said that for those who still want to consume them, that they should at the very least do so by cooking them at lower temperatures.
It's no surprise that researchers or nutritionists and other health experts might say that French fries aren't exactly the most healthy snack or meal decision that one could make. But the results of this study are interesting when it comes to further investigating the link between fry consumption and the risk of death.

I eat McDonalds Fries like 2-3 times a week, should I be concerned. Certainly am, after reading this Post :P
I like them too. Cut back to 1x/week maybe?
Ooh I hate the McDonalds fries. They are so small! They had an extra kind for a while: big, fat fries with skin, now those were great! Not there anymore though, lucky me I guess ;-)
those were awesome i can't believe they took them away, but they take all good things away.. they took away their pizza too lol
They had pizza? Wow, I didn't know that!
this was like 15 years ago though lol only 2 locations in the US still serve the pizza and it makes me want to make a road trip to them lol
Aah, yeah I guess I missed that, 15 years ago (if they had it in the Netherlands). I can understand! Honestly, I'd take that US road trip, even if there wasn't pizza involved ;-)
You do know that only poor people eat at mcd right?
I live in Asia, were food is Cheap. Mc Donalds is not where poor people eat. Maybe it's a poor choice of Diet but would'nt categorize food like this. Food is food man
Im viet and i pass on mcd.
goole the ingredients in McDonalds fries, that may help you stop eating them
High temperature and vegetable oils.. might be safer to deep fry them in saturated fats. But probably best to just bake them.
Wish fries weren't my favorite food, well, right behind potato chips!
ive been trying to opt for more sweet potato instead now but it just isn't the same lol

Bring on the Reaper!!!
Interesting stats, it also wouldn't help that generally , the fries aren't just eaten on their own and end up being accompanied by a burger or fried chicken and a big softdrink .
Good post.
