Yes there is a thing called wave number. Simply it is the spacial frequency of a wave (the number of waves in a given distance) it doesnt really apply to surfing as it only apply to consistent waves. Surf waves are far to inconsistent
I recall being in the line up waiting for a wave that would never come!!! :(
