The conservation of energy is only a local phenomenon
When a galaxy at the edge of the observable universe crosses the horizon into that part of the universe forever beyond our reach due to expansion all of its matter and energy is lost to us forever. We cannot prove its existence in any way once it is beyond the light speed barrier, so it has "disappeared" from our universe.
Isn't that right?
We can only make statements regarding what we know, not what we do not know.
We do know that a certain amount of matter/energy exists in our universe due to observation. Then when that matter drifts beyond the light speed limit due to expansion we know that matter/energy can no longer be observed, or accessed on our universe. Therefore it has ceased to exist as a provable thing, has it not?
