An invention to extract venom from the tail of scorpions has international attention

A team of Moroccan researchers at the Faculty of Science has invented a new device for the extraction of venom from scorpions, a component used in the treatment of many of the most intractable diseases, mainly malaria and cancer, which can compensate for the manual method used for this purpose, At risk.

The new invention, called VES-4, has attracted the attention of a number of specialized science and technology journals around the world that have shown that this lightweight mobile device will enable researchers to operate in the lab and at the field level, Including the technique of "manual electrical stimulation" or "mechanical stimulation" unreliable, in addition to the technique of "puncture the venom of scorpions", which cause pain for the latter.

The new technology depends on fixing the scorpion tail and pushing it to remove the poison by electrifying it, before the toxin is collected and stored safely. The new device has been tested on a number of types of scorpions, and can be programmed to save the settings of each type, while the touch screen allows researchers to use the device to display the names of the species from which the poison was extracted.

"This device can quickly extract the toxin and provide the necessary safety conditions," said Maad Makmal, who helped design the device with a team of researchers from Hassan II University. "The process of extracting scorpion poison is a very difficult task, Specialists at least ".

"There are many risks to the scorpion's scorpion, including the deadly scorpion stings or electric shocks used to stimulate the toxin's secretion zone," the researcher at Hassan II University said. On the other hand, Kamel highlighted that the new device "can extract the poison of the scorpion without exposing the animal to pain, or risk the life of its extractors."

A number of countries have attached great importance to scorpion research, which is being used in various fields of treatment. Recent studies on cancer treatment are based on substances made up of the scorpion's venom used to kill some of the deadly tumors in the human body. And the price of one gram of the poison of some types of scorpions to thousands of dirhams.20170704_155432.png
