Mind was thinking, “How can we transfer some of the techniques and strategies that we use to live our best life, to others, without telling them what to do, and coming off like an influence?” That’s the challenge.
For a very long time, deep within the “influencer era,” we have adamantly stated that we’d “rather be a role model, than an influencer.” And that’s how we roll. Today, “role model” isn’t good enough either. Who wants to be an anti-social, minimalist vagabond? Even this is an illusion.
It doesn’t seem so far from today’s position, but we put in some seriously hard work back in the day. We took on some difficult tasks, made sacrifices for the betterment of the next generation, crafted our shields, vanquished emotions that held us back, and jettisoned unnecessary weight. We managed these tasks well before we heard any of the Zen stories or philosophical metaphors. Mostly, we had some good times.
The young and inexperienced want the wisdom without going through the shit. That’s universal. I don’t even blame them. I can remember wanting to be where some of the senior military guys were when I arrived at my first duty-station. These cats, who were close to a 20 year retirement, had been in Vietnam. Many were fucked up, close to being fucked up, were in denial about being fucked up, or somewhere on the fucked up spectrum.
“Wisdom,” when it comes right down to the bare bones, is being able to recognize the difference between right & wrong. But those are only the bones. Sometimes what seems “right” and harmless at the time, can turn out to be very damaging down the road. Why, you may ask. Because there were missing factors in the decision-making process. These factors don’t usually make themselves known until after the fact. Sometimes way after the fact.
Back in the olden days, wisdom was equated with magic. “In the land of the blind, the one-eyed man is King.” To the ignorant, or the unwise, knowledge, for example being able to produce fire from a stick, is amazing.
There’s this cowboy movie called, El Dorado (1966), that paired John Wayne and Robert Mitchum, with James Caan. Caan’s character, (Mississippi) had just taken out one of the baddies in a quick-draw, without a gun. The boss baddie sent a couple of his guys out of the bar, ostensibly to get rid of the corpse. Mississippi was eager to get out of the saloon, but John Wayne kept urging him not to be in so much of a hurry to leave. Wayne was not only flexing his wisdom, but his experience as well. No spoilers here.
There are so many subtle nuances to situations these days. So many factors to consider. So many more than, in the last century for example, and there were still a lot then. Someone I consider a friend, wrote something about Plans A through Z, in the context of careers choices. Mind silently agreed. This is similar to our strategy. It’s like we would keep, “spares” around.
“Spare what?”
“Spare skills.” Just in case. Stay smart enough to learn computer stuff, but also stay strong enough to dig ditches or twist wrenches when there’s no one else around who is willing or able to do it.
But that’s “old school,” last century “wisdom.” I don’t know whether it’s taught or shown in government schools or not.
If there’s a universal curriculum that would benefit humans for the next thousand years, the top tier would be all about the development of the Trinity, Mind, Body, Soul. The second tier would be about honing the senses, not only the five physical senses, but those “feeling” senses. Like you know when you’re getting sick. You know when trouble’s afoot. You know what you are vulnerable to.
The third tier would be quadrastanding other humans. Study their behaviors, listen to their language, watch and notice how they move. How they’re triggered.
Fourth tier, would be mobility, balance, various elements of strength.
Of course, with your boy there would be three more tiers and then we’d get deeper into elements of each level.
If one builds one of those big Baby Huey bodies, but aren’t aware of their own power, or have not developed the integrity to discipline their actions, there’s going to be trouble. Big trouble. Think about the novel, “Of Mice and Men.”
Finally, if not eloquently, we can get into the Summer of Self Care. Coming off of ten days of hosting a friend whose friendship was forged nearly 45 years ago, we must realign the vessel with our most healthy habits. By declaring the “Summer of Self Care,” it’s like speaking something into existence. We can get back to our normal exercise pattern. Restart our hundreds, stay out of bars, cook in and eat in. And let the vessel repair what needs to be repaired.
We’re going to figure this stuff out. We know, and a lot of cats already know, that too many individuals are messed up. Mostly due to expectations thrust upon them and promises implied by previous generations that did not prepare them for this century. Fooled by lying influencers who not only talk shit, but live shit, and show shit in social media posts… and now with AI, the shit-show has been enhanced by magnitudes, which leaves too many feeling as if they’ve lost ground.
The psychopathic Hapsberg diaspora fanatically demands progress even when their vessels, (brains, and banks) are exhausted.
We’ll figure it out. And when we do, we’ll pass it along. Take what works, and leave what’s left.
