Hi, wonderful members of this amazing community! I send warm greetings to all and hope your day is going splendidly. I’m excited to share how my day began and concluded with a delightful and engaging home activity. It was one of those days rich in teamwork, family connection, and the delightful scent of homemade meals. The highlight was cooking one of our favorite Nigerian dishes, Afang soup, a beloved meal in our home due to its delicious flavor and nutritional benefits.

COOKING TOGETHER, EATING TOGETHER AND STAYING HAPPY

Our day started early as my wife and I discussed what to cook for the family. After some deliberation, we decided it was the perfect occasion to make Afang soup. Once we made our choice, we began to gather all the necessary ingredients for the cooking process. Understanding that Afang soup requires fresh vegetables and careful preparation, we knew it would take some time and effort, but we were ready for it. Our first task involved preparing the vegetables. We carefully picked the Afang leaves, washing them thoroughly to eliminate any dirt. After washing, we let the leaves dry a bit before cutting them up. We also prepared the water leaves, ensuring they were spotless, as cleanliness is crucial in cooking. Seeing the fresh vegetables ready for use sparked our excitement, knowing the soup was going to be delicious.

Following the vegetable preparation, we went to the market to gather the remaining ingredients for the soup. We bought fresh meat, stockfish, seasonings, spices, periwinkle, and other essentials for making the soup rich and flavorful. The market was bustling, but we managed to find everything we needed without much hassle. Coming home with all the ingredients added to the excitement as everyone looked forward to the meal.
Once back home, the real cooking began. My wife took charge of chopping the Afang and water leaves into smaller pieces while I helped in various ways, like sharpening the kitchen knife to make slicing easier and faster. Though it may seem like a minor task, it played a crucial role in the preparation. I also helped prepare the periwinkle and properly season the meat before cooking. We worked harmoniously, creating a joyful atmosphere in the house.

As the cooking progressed, the aroma wafting from the kitchen became increasingly inviting. The meat was perfectly cooked, and all the ingredients blended seamlessly. When the chopped vegetables were finally added to the pot, the soup turned vibrant, rich, and appetizing. At that moment, the effort we had put into the preparation felt entirely worthwhile, as we could already sense the soup would be fantastic.

After a long cooking session and constant stirring, the much-anticipated Afang soup was finally ready. It looked absolutely delicious and smelled incredible. We carefully served it into plates and bowls for storage in the fridge to enjoy over the next few days, though we couldn’t resist tasting it right away. We served ourselves generous portions and savored every bite. The meal was genuinely enjoyable, and everyone appreciated the hard work involved in its preparation.

By the end of the day, I felt happy and fulfilled. Cooking alongside my wife reminded me of the importance of family moments. Beyond just making food, it was also about bonding, teamwork, and joy at home. This is how my day began and ended—with productive activities, excellent teamwork, and a delightful pot of Afang soup that brought satisfaction to everyone in the household.
