The Clouds that Danced like Hopping Mice
A Short Story
by thehway

Catherine Blunder had always loved noisy Newton Abbot with its weak, worried waters. It was a place where she felt lonely.

She was a bold, courageous, brandy drinker with pretty abs and moist eyebrows. Her friends saw her as a huge, healthy hero. Once, she had even revived a dying, baby. That's the sort of woman he was.

Catherine walked over to the window and reflected on her magical surroundings. The clouds danced like hopping mice.

Then she saw something in the distance, or rather someone. It was the figure of Virginia Parker. Virginia was a smart deity with red abs and curvy eyebrows.

Catherine gulped. She was not prepared for Virginia.

As Catherine stepped outside and Virginia came closer, she could see the smelly glint in her eye.

"Look Catherine," growled Virginia, with a charming glare that reminded Catherine of smart gerbils. "It's not that I don't love you, but I want Internet access. You owe me 2746 euros."

Catherine looked back, even more stable and still fingering the ribbed teapot. "Virginia, I admire your eyebrows," she replied.

They looked at each other with stable feelings, like two early, eager elephants running at a very considerate bar mitzvah, which had classical music playing in the background and two deranged uncles eating to the beat.

Suddenly, Virginia lunged forward and tried to punch Catherine in the face. Quickly, Catherine grabbed the ribbed teapot and brought it down on Virginia's skull.

Virginia's red abs trembled and her curvy eyebrows wobbled. She looked puzzled, her wallet raw like a roasted, round rock.

Then she let out an agonising groan and collapsed onto the ground. Moments later Virginia Parker was dead.

Catherine Blunder went back inside and made herself a nice glass of brandy.
