Wisconsin is so innocent. Loose zoo skunk makes the news

in #skunk8 days ago

I don't know a great deal about Wisconsin and I have never been there. I do know that when you do think about Wisconsin you don't generally think of anything major. Green Bay is there and they really like cheese, other than that, they seem to be a pretty peaceful people.

But when Wisconsin news does happen even if it is something really small, it makes the news just, i suppose, so Wiconsinites don't feel like they are being left out.

When I see stories like this I can't help but think of the Anchorman puff pieces they would do at the end one of which was a squirrel that could waterski. Look at him, that's amazing. That squirrel can WATER SKI

The article was a welcome one on a news aggregate that must specialize in stupid crap and loads of advertisements masquerading as "news" about people who won the lottery without hardly spending money at all. That drives me nuts but it must be working for them because they keep fucking doing it.

The city of Marshfield, Wisconsin is quite concerned about "Violet" the skunk though because she poses virtually zero danger to anything but will be a sitting duck if she is approached by or is attacked by a dog or cat. While I was previously unaware that this was possible, this skunk has had her stinky defense mechanism removed and now only has some teeth and a few scratchy claws to defend herself.

Sadly this story probably will not have a pleasant end because Violet has been at the zoo for several years and is accustommed not only to not having any predators, but also to having her food brought to her daily, probably multiple times.

This skunk has never lived a single day of her life in the wild. I don't exactly have a soft spot for squirrels but I normally feel pretty bad for animals that are kept in cages at zoos especially if they have to have parts of them removed, such as their total ability to defend themselves, in order for that to happen.

Oh well Wisconsin, perhaps something good can come out of this after all and maybe people will start to look at zoos a bit more closely because I think that if you are going to keep animals in captivity, you need to ensure that they are actually safe there Being capable of escaping because of the various excuses the zoo is making, is not acceptable.

At least it wasn't a story about riot of some sort of Stop Oil people blocking the highway. This is a longshot, but if you happen to live up near Marshfield WI, keep an eye out for violet!
