SLC-S32/W3 | Frames of My World : People & Everyday Life
There are moments when you walk into a space and immediately understand something about the world. Not from books or lectures but from watching real people do real work that matters.
That's what happened when I spent time at IMELDA YAYALA LTD a small but mighty cyber and printing center on 326 Oron Road in Uyo.
I want to share what I observed not just as facts but as a story about what it means to be young entrepreneurial and committed to serving your community in Nigeria.
THE SETTING: Where It All Happens
The storefront isn't impressive by corporate standards. Blue painted walls concrete floors simple equipment. No fancy lobby no reception desk no air conditioning running overtime.
But here's what I learned that importance is measured by impact.
The shop is a regular residential area of Uyo the kind of neighborhood where people live normal lives work normal jobs and face normal challenges. One of those challenges? Access. Access to technology to internet to the tools needed to navigate an increasingly digital world.
IMELDA YAYALA LTD stands as a solution to that problem.
| 1 | WHERE IS THIS PLACE LOCATED ? |
|---|
IMELDA YAYALA LTD is located at 326 Oron Road here in Uyo Akwa Ibom State. Nigeria.
If you're just passing by you might miss it. That's the thing about grassroots businesses they're not loud.
The neighborhood tells you everything. A supermarket is by the corner. A place selling household items nearby. Regular people doing regular things. It's the kind of area where your neighborhood might be a student a trader a parent a job seeker.
They are exactly where they need to be accessible to the people who need them most. Not in some fancy business district. Right here in the community.
| 2 | WHO ARE THE PEOPLE FEATURED IN YOUR PHOTOGRAPHS AND WHAT ARE THEY DOING ? |
|---|

The manager attending to the customer
The Manager: One is a graduate who runs the operation. I watched him move through the shop checking on equipment helping customers managing the business. He's calm focused and clearly knows what he's doing. This isn't his first day this is his life's work (so far).
The Team: Then there are two workers a boy and a girl who are students at the University of Uyo. They're balancing school and work which tells you something about their character. They're not just working for money but they're working to build something with the manager.
| 3 | HOW DO THESE PEOPLE CONTRIBUTE TO THE LOCAL COMMUNITY OR ECONOMY ? |
|---|
Let me be specific here because it matters a lot.
They Create Jobs
There are multiple people working there. Let me be real in Nigeria finding employment isn't easy. These young entrepreneurs created positions. Real people are earning real money doing real work. That money goes to feed families pay school fees rent houses buy food. That's economic impact you can measure.
They Provide Access And I Mean Real Access
I watched a woman come in one afternoon. She was older maybe in her 50s. She never used a computer. Not once. She needed to register her daughter for a program online. She was nervous almost embarrassed about not knowing how.
One of the workers sat with her. Not for five minutes. Not even ten minutes. He sat with her for probably 25 minutes showing her step-by-step how to use the mouse how to type how to navigate the website. By the end she wasn't just done with her registration she understood how to do it.
That's access. That's opportunity.
Not everyone has a computer at home. Not everyone has internet. Not everyone knows how to use these tools. Without IMELDA YAYALA LTD that woman would have been stuck. A student couldn't print their assignment. A parent couldn't register their child. A job seeker couldn't apply online. A person couldn't scan important documents for a loan application.
This business is literally a gateway to opportunity.
They Build Digital Skills in Their Community
I realized something while I was there they're not just providing a service they're building literacy. Digital literacy. In a world where everything is moving online that's crucial. They teach people who've never touched a computer. They show older folks how technology works. They demystify things that seem complicated.
That changes lives. That changes communities.
They Enable Other People's Dreams
A traveler books a safe trip. A job seeker applies for a position they've been wanting. A trader scans documents for a business loan.
Each person who walks out of that shop has been enabled. They've been given access to something they didn't have before. The owners earn money doing this yes. But they're also literally making it possible for other people to move forward.
They Show What Community Values Look Like
I noticed something deeper than just business transactions. There's a value system here. Hard work. Self-reliance. Helping others. Integrity. These aren't posted on a wall, they're lived. The way they treat customers, the patience they show the care they take with details that's values in action.
They Keep Money Circulating Locally
When someone pays for a service, that money doesn't leave. It goes to:
- The owners (who spend it in the community)
- The employees (who feed themselves)
- Suppliers they buy from
- The landlord
- Local commerce
That is how economies actually grow from the ground up one transaction one business one community at a time.
| 4 | WHAT DID YOU LEARN OR OBSERVE WHILE SPENDING TIME IN THIS PLACE ? |
|---|
Spending time there changed how I think about business and community differently
It's humble but it's purposeful. You walk in and you feel it immediately. People aren't wasting time. Everyone's focused. The owners are there working alongside their staff. Nobody's sitting in an office far removed from customers.
I watched the stream of people coming through:
- A student with a printing emergency
- An older person asking questions slowly and carefully
- A businessman needing professional document services
- A parent confused about an online process
- A young person learning how to type
Each one was treated with the same care. The same patience. The same respect. I didn't see anyone made to feel small or stupid. Nobody was rushed.
They find solutions to their problems
This is entrepreneurship in it original form. They did not wait for the government to provide tech centers. They did not wait for someone to offer them a job. They looked at their community and asked What do people need ? The answer was obvious access to technology help with digital tools reliable internet printing services.
So they built it.
There's No Wasting Time
I noticed there's an efficiency here. Equipment is maintained. Work is organized. Customers are helped quickly without feeling rushed. It's lean it's focused it's intentional.
The Owners Genuinely Care
This isn't just a paycheck for them. When someone needed extra help they gave it.
That is not something you fake. That comes from genuinely wanting to serve your community.
Young People Are Building the Future Right Now
I realized watching them work that this is the future being built. Not by government programs or big corporations. By young people in their own communities solving real problems serving real people. That is powerful.
| 5 | WHAT STORY OR EMOTION DO YOUR PHOTOGRAPHS CONVEY ABOUT EVERYDAY LIFE ? |
|---|
The story is about young people taking care of their lives and future ahead
There is no red carpet. No viral moment. No headlines. Just work. Real work. Day after day.
These guys didn't wait for someone to give them a job. They created one. For themselves. For their employees. For their community.
The Emotion is Complex:
Pride : Not arrogant but earned. They built something. They show it off. They should.
Determination : I could feel it. This isn't a hobby or side gig. This is their focus. Their commitment.
Quiet Hustle : There's no bragging here. No big announcements. Just steady work day after day.
Hope : Because watching them work, you realize: young people don't have to leave their communities to succeed. You don't have to wait for the system. You can build something where you are with what you have.
Dignity : There is dignity in this work. Not because it's fancy but because it matters. It helps people. It's honest.

Customer patiently waiting to be attended to
A Point Of View
A student printing an assignment might seem small. But for that student it changes things. A parent registering their child might seem routine. But for that parent it's important. A person learning to use a computer for the first time might seem simple. But for that person it's life-changing.
That's what real economy looks like at the ground level. Not in boardrooms or stock markets. In community cyber centers. In young people who care. In everyday people using services that change their lives.
The Everyday Struggle Mixed with Everyday Wins:
This is Nigeria. This is Uyo. This is real life. It is not perfect. It is not always easy. But it's honest. It's purposeful. And it's working.

My Final Words
When you walk into IMELDA YAYALA LTD you are not just walking into a cyber cafe. You are walking into a place where community is being built. Where opportunities are being created. A place Where young people are proving that you can make a difference right where you are.
That is the story these photographs tell. That is the emotion they convey.
That is everyday life doing something extraordinary.
