New start, new vegan, check out my breakfast smoothie!

in #smoothie8 years ago (edited)

I have recently changed my diet to vegan and have been experimenting with different smoothies.

I love them as they are so easy to do, they taste delicious and they are so healthy.

There are so many different varieties obviously depending on the ingredients you use, and today I used the following:-

• Frozen bananas
• Strawberries
• Grapes
• Kiwi fruit
• 1 cup of Spinach
• 1 cup of Water

Bananas are full of potassium and magnesium, which can reduce blood pressure and the risk of heart disease. Bananas a great for healthy digestion as they contain fibre, great for skin and hair and bananas also improve mood. The greener the banana the better as well, because greener bananas have a higher pectin content which helps to protect the colon from colon cancer.

I was just researching the health benefits of strawberries and to my surprise found out that strawberries are not actually classed as a fruit, I didn’t know that! This is because their seeds are on the outside. Their plants are known as runners and are actually a member of the rose family. Strawberries are full of manganese and potassium, and are an excellent source of vitamin C and K, fibre, and the phytonutrients and flavanoids are what gives strawberries their bright red colour. Strawberries are also high in antioxidants, which again protect against cancer and heart disease.

Grapes are rich in vitamins A, C, B6, and the minerals magnesium, selenium, iron, calcium, and potassium. Grapes help to treat constipation, indigestion, fatigue, and they also help to prevent cataracts.

Again, Kiwi fruit aids the treatment of cancer, and improves cardiovascular health and the digestive system. They are great for people with diabetes, kiwis help with insomnia, keeps the skin healthy and helps the body to absorb iron.

Spinach! A super-food having anti-cancer properties has a rich iron content, and vitamins such as A, C and K, vitamin B6 and B1. It is also full of essential minerals such as copper, zinc, potassium, manganese and magnesium. It is a good source Omega 3, and helps to prevent anaemia, osteoporosis and cardiovascular disease.

So all in all, that’s one hell of a healthy smoothie!

So get all your ingredients together and chuck it in your blender…

You’ll be glad you did!

Enjoy, and follow me for more recipes to come! :o)

That looks fantastic! I didn't know you could stuff the jar so full for a NutriBullet. I have a Ninja and you can only fill it about 2/3 full.

One of my favorite smoothies is equal parts mango and kale with cashew yogurt or soy milk. It tastes a lot like a mango lassi and you can hardly taste the kale. :)

Thanks for your comment @goose :o) I didn't know you could either but it seems to work fine - there is a maximum mark about two inches down from the top of the cup but I think thats for the amount of liquid you add in. The mango smoothie sounds nice, I am going to have to try that now! I'm not so keen on soy milk so I usually use hemp or coconut milk instead. I like the fact that you can put whatever greens you like in there - like the kale or spinach, and you can't taste it :o)
