Eintracht Frankfurt v. Borussia M'Gladbach 2-0 (1-0)

On Friday, Eintracht Frankfurt faced Borussia M'Gladbach in the Bundesliga. With Frankfurt being 7th and Gladbach being 5th, both had the chance to become 2nd of the table behind Bayern Munich for at least over-night.

Although Borussia started very offensively with a very early pressing, Frankfurt was able to claim some control over the game. There weren't a lot of chances within the first half because both defensive lines made a really good job.
After only 15 minutes Gladbach keeper Yann Sommer had to leave the pitch due to an injury. He was replaced by Tobias Sippel - who was beaten six times in his last game he played against Dortmund in September of 2017.
30 minutes played, Eintracht player Ante Rebic was lucky not to be sent off after a rude tackle against Patrick Herrmann.
Only a few minutes before the half time whistle Timothy Chandler was able to get to ball in front of the goal where Kevin-Prince Boateng appeared to make it 1-0 for the home team which was rather deserved at this point.

In the second half things went totally different as Gladbach gained control over the ball and stayed active most of the time. Although they had a lot of possession they were unable to create many chances. Herrmanns shot in the 57th minute hit the crossbar, he tried it from outside the box as all of his teammates did - without success.
In the 78th minute Gladbach were given a penalty after goal-scoring Boateng fouled Lars Stindl but executing Thorgan Hazard failed as he hit the crossbar as well.
In the additional time Luka Jovic, who came onto the pitch for Sebastien Haller, managed to make it 2-0 and decide this one for Frankfurt after a counter attack.

This win leads Frankfurt to the 2nd place in the table, at least until Saturday. Then four teams (Leverkusen, Schalke, Leipzig and Dortmund) have the chance to follow.

Without a doubt, Frankfurt is doing very well at the moment. Their coach Niko Kovac is even said to be a possible solution for the vacant job as the coach of Bayern Munich next season. At the moment, fans can dream about the European Cup which Eintracht reached last in 2012-13.

Sort:

I wonder which team is gonna win the league... maybe Bayer Munich (irony of course)
Spanish and German leagues are so predictable.

Definitely, they are up to win the 6th championship in a row. Today they picked up an easy win against Hoffenheim while only Schalke won behind them, Dortmund and Leipzig didn't win. So yep, it's pretty safe to say that Bayern wins the league and it'll take a lot to change this in the future.
